*sigh* Rebuilding my 1FZ

I've known Ryan, his dad, and his brother Matt for twenty-couple years. Your truck is in good hands.

I was just watching the OTRAMM video for installing DT headers on the 100 series for tips on installing the driver side header in preparation for installing mine.

Sounds like your truck is in good hands! Excited for you to get the refreshed motor back and hit the trails again!

*UPDATE*

There was a bit of a back up with the machine shop that is doing the head work on my 1FZ. It sounds like everything got backed up with COVID. Things are moving along nicely now though. The head goes over to the machine shop tomorrow.

Got some photos from @OTRAMM this evening. Work on the motor continues.

I forgot to post this.

Back when the truck was picked up by the towing company, my daughter knew I was sad to see my truck leave our house in such a state. I had been talking about doing all the work myself for a while. When the time crunch came and I needed to get the truck up and running again, I was upset that I wasn't going to be doing the teardown myself. Abbie decided to make me feel better by hiding cards all over the house that read "Happy fix it day." All of them had illustrations of the truck getting fixed or off-roading. It did make me feel better.

Here is one of them.

*UPDATE*

Ryan (@OTRAMM) sent over some photos of the new 1FZ short block that's replacing the older one. It's a thing of beauty.

Thought I'd share.

Why the new short block?
The old motor went up to @OTRAMM to be refreshed. Initially I was going to have Ryan do a head gasket since I ran out of time and space to do it. After talking with him about the mileage on the truck (over 310,000mi) he suggested having a look at the bottom end. Since replacing the bearings, gaskets, and sending it to a machine shop comes out to be about the same as a new 1FZ short block, I opted for the short block. I can't remember the savings, but it isn't much. It's especially enticing when you can get an all new rotating assembly from Toyota.

Haven't posted in a while, I've been too busy to follow-up on the 1FZ refresh and rebuild. Also missed Logan's Run due to work.

Crash (Danny) and Ryan @OTRAMM have been busy too. They've done a fantastic job in refreshing the old motor.

One thing I forgot to mention about the truck, before it went up to Ryan. I stripped-out the entire interior except for the dash, headliner and driver's seat. I wanted to clean everything since the interior has been pretty dingy for the past few years.

The truck should be fun to drive with the weight reduction. It'll go...like 2MPH faster.

when I had everything removed behind the front seats, drafting behind a convoy of semis on i95 and I40, I got 22 mpg in my 80 series. it was also after a fresh tuneup, plugs, wires, a bottle of tech Ron, and no air conditioning LOLOLOL

He's home safe and sound. Nice smooth trip.
