Side mirrors not operating laterally (why I wish I had an LC and not LX) (1 Viewer)

Quick bump. Just beginning to have issues with one of my side mirrors, but I don't believe it's the motor. The mirror tilts up/down/in/out just fine when adjusting manually with the button in the cabin. The issue is with auto-down. After putting trans into reverse, the driver's mirror moves down but passenger's does not. If I put it in park, then back in reverse, the mirror will then move down. But, it may not move back up.

So given that the motors seems to work fine manually, I wonder if there's possibly another issues. Gear lever switch of some kind? Even then, wouldn't a bad gear switch also prevent the driver's mirror from auto-down function as well?
From the TSB linked above by @hoser :
"Some 2003 – 2007 model year LX 470 vehicles may exhibit a condition where one or both of theouter rear view mirrors will not automatically return to the proper position when shifting from reverseto drive. A newly designed mirror ECU is available to correct this condition. For 2003 – 2006 modelyear vehicles it is also necessary to replace the mirror actuators. This condition does not affect the manual operation of the exterior mirrors from the adjustment switch."

I am having the same issue you are, MongooseGA. The mirrors move just fine when I direct them manually, but the programming in the ECU seems not to always complete the operations. They dance around in the general direction when I move from R to P and back but it's clunky to say the least.

It looks like we can still get the ECU from Dubai (89430-60041 COMPUTER ASSY, OUTER for Toyota - https://toyotadxb.com/spare-parts/toyota/computer-assy-outer-8943060041/) ...well...assuming the current Iran/Israel shenanigans don't screw that up...(foreshadowing).

If I can get a hold of one I'll report back to the group.

Great find! Thanks for sharing, I'll keep an eye out for your update.

well, i took at very low tech method to fix mine, I snipped the wire so they no longer retract or extend. It was the blue wire on the connector in the door. The mirror positioning still works but the mirror motor not longer runs non-stop.

Are you talking about the fold feature? Or just the auto-down feature for R/P?

For just the latter, you can flip the little switch inside the mirror adjustment panel and it will turn off the up/down feature, no cutting required.
