Should we try for a meet up? (1 Viewer)

Dare we invite 100 owners too?

This is NOT just an 80 series meet up. All owners of TLCA eligible vehicles are invited. This is, "Flat Land Cruisers" - not a recognized chapter in anything, but I see it as much broader than just us 80s on I80.

Per TLCA: Membership Benefits
"TLCA Individual Membership is open to those individuals and families interested in Toyota 4 wheel drive vehicles. This includes all models of Land Cruisers, FJ Cruisers, 4Runners, and 4x4 trucks. As of this writing, TLCA Individual Membership is approximately 4,000 individuals/families."

So - lets open it up and see what falls out.

I agree, I think it would be great to get a strong community of NE owners. I have searched quite a bit and tried to find as many people from NE as I could. I sent a PM to everyone "my" list so it is very possible that I could have missed someone.

470 owner here. Not sure if I could make the meet up, will have to check the calendar. I would like to get to know some fellow cruiser enthusiasts none the less as we are few and far between around these parts. By the way, anybody around here have any experience with AHC removal

Since this thread goes to owners of all different models, you might get more responses if you define "AHC".:hmm:

Although I can generally remove just about anything with my sledgehammer, the collateral damage is often unwanted.:hillbilly:

Sorry guys. Yes, AHC is the hydraulic suspension system on the lx470 (100 series). This must be removed in order to install a conventional system. Looking at the OME medium 1.5" or Iron man suspension right now. There are a few write ups in the 100 forum but its an intimidating endevor non the less.

Do you have a good build link for the curious to check out what is involved?

So it is based on a central pump/valve set to raise/lower based on fluid pressure in the fluid-shocks and not air/pump based then?

It would be an expensive lift - but I'm surprised no-one is putting extended reservoir shocks in and keeping the AHC with a taller suspension.

Reading the list - it's a no-go-back game once you cut off those fluid lines. I didn't see any pictures of what the front looks like afterward - how is it handling the limitations of the angles on the IFS?

You can adjust the height sensors to let you ride in hi all the time, otherwise it will settle into normal at about 15mph. The problem with AHC is that eventually it starts to fail and its crazy expensive to work on and replace parts for.

I have a 2000 LX 470 and have played with the AHC a little bit, I like it but I don't think it is really necessary, just something extra that can fail and like you said very expensive to fix. My plan is to let it go for now and if/when it fails to replace it with a regular suspension. I do know that SLEE has an AHC control to leave it in the "HI" setting Slee - Electrical Switches. Christo Slee is a pretty good guy to talk to about doing it, and I am pretty sure they have some kind of kit to do it as well.

Where are you from? Good to have a another 100 LX owner around!

I think their AHC on the "newer" LX's is the Active Height Control system. :hmm: Sounds like snake oil to me.... :D

Thats funny

Back on Topic a Bit

So, we're a bit less than 3 weeks out now.

If any of you know someone who probably should be at our little meet up but hasn't replied here - please contact them directly.

Important bits:
Sunday October 16th at Mahoney State Park (@ 1/2 way between Omaha and Lincoln).
Free hot dog lunch - bring your own beverage and optionally, a side item to share.
Kids very welcome. There is a gigantic outdoor play area 50 yards from the lot we're meeting in.
Dogs are fine - just continue to be responsible with them.

My plan is to get there around 11:30 to set up for cooking. I'll be there until at least 4:30 PM. If you come late, I'll still cook you a hot dog.

Thanks. I have looked into the Slee controller a little bit, but in the end the AHC is still beginning to go down hill and my plan was always to put a regular suspension on it. Oh yeah, I am from Omaha. Sorry to derail the thread, my son has a football game on the day of the meet-up so if there is still time afterward we will try and make it.

What's the head count on this event so far?

Jrob (1) with some sort of cruiser, I was pretty set on bringing the 80 but might have to change plans. I will try and pick up some kind of desert for snacking to bring.

Grench,

I saw a woman driving a stock looking ruby FZJ80 LC north on 72nd down around Harrison or Q Street last Saturday night after the Huskers got whooped... Could that have been your wife?

Pretty crazy...about 10 minutes later around 75th and Blondo I saw a stock white/beige LX450 just like mine...

Nope - not her that time. Her truck was/is in the shop getting exhaust work done. (I have no time - it needs done.) So she's been driving mine this last week.

Speaking of which... Last Friday she was driving my truck and got pulled over. The officer walked up and she said, "What was I doing wrong? I was careful on my speed and everything." The officer laughed and said, "I can see now that I've had a closer look that it isn't the case, but I thought you were a hunter and had left your gun on the back of your truck by accident." They both had a good laugh with my wife saying, "I hate driving my husband's truck!"

I have a Sleeoffroad rear swing out bumper (early style) with a hi-lift jack mounted on it - under a black hi-lift cover.

She also hates getting stopped by strange men in store parking lots and being asked about the snorkel. Good thing she only 'has' to drive mine when her's is getting worked on.

Right now I'm planning to bring both her's and mine out to Mahoney.
