Just a reminder - see you all on Sunday!

Even if you don't RSVP here and just happen to wander out to Mahoney on Sunday, you're still welcome!

Sorry, boys I have to go to Salem OR for work this weekend, so not able to make it. 2ELO, just have them photoshop a double of yours for a stand in pic...maybe regroup in the spring?

Bummer! Sounds good about the photoshop, though...we'll try to work something out. :hmm: :D

I agree, I think it would be great to get a strong community of NE owners. I have searched quite a bit and tried to find as many people from NE as I could. I sent a PM to everyone "my" list so it is very possible that I could have missed someone.

Hi. :hillbilly:

I thought I would add...and couldn't find an edit button for my above post....that I am not a cruiser owner (yet?), but might be tagging along with Jeff and driving his for sale 80 up.

I have lurked on this forum for a long time, just never post. :meh:

Newbie

Well as you can see it is my first post here. Just bought a 80 about a month ago. I am new to the 80's, but not toyotas. I was curious if anyone would be willing to meet me and check out my front knuckles. I am so used to the IFS and I have no clue what to look for on my 80. I have done plenty of reading and searching, but honestly it is so much easier to compare mine to someone elses. I live out around 180 and Harrison area, but i will drive anywhere to meet.

Drive out to Mahaoney State Park - be there around noonish tomorrow (Sunday the 16th) and there will be lots of people to stare at your knuckles and you can cross-compare to your hearts content with several 80s. You can even get a hot dog or three for free.

There have even been known to be test drives of different setups.

See everyone tomorrow!

It was great to meet everybody today.

The rest of the pics I took are here Browse Album :: Landcruisers 10-16-11 .

Thanks for posting the pictures, Jeff.

Very nice to meet you all. Looking forward to the next time!

EDIT: Also have to note a casualty on the way home...the friggin' antenna mast cable must have snapped. The motor still works and runs but the antenna doesn't move. I just disconnected the power plug to the antenna motor and manually forced it to the up position...

:meh: Oh, well. It made it through 160,400 miles or so...not too bad. I'll have to fix it someday....just not a priority now.

If the motor works I think you can get an aftermarket mast pretty cheap that will work good. As promised here is the link to Gentex: Gentex, and then a link to the LED thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/294624-led-dome-lights-3.html, treerootCO has a great thread and he posts up in this one as well.

It was very nice to meet everyone. Always good to see new faces.

With that said that drive never gets any shorter that is for sure... I think I got home a little after 6:00, I had to stop in York and get a bite to eat and stretch my legs. I used to get about 12-15, just an ARB on the front rest stock on the interstate going around 80 mph this trip going closer to 70-75 I was getting closer to 5.5-7.5  I knew that going in though so not that big of a deal.

As promised here is the area near Fullerton NE "Broken Arrow Wilderness" Broken Arrow Wilderness - Home - nebraska4x4.org went there in this thread: "Jeep The Leap" Broken Arrow Wilderness 2011. I found this about Tuttle: Tuttle Creek ORV Area - Kansas Motorcycle and ATV Trails.

Hopefully we can find a good time to get together again and maybe go for a trail run as well.

My truck did that - dropped down to the 6-8mpg range. It turned out to be a clogged catalytic converter. Are you having a power drop as well?

No, I haven't noticed anything in a power drop, I just thought it would be from all the extra weight I added to the truck. This was the first time I have had it out on the interstate since I put the lift, rear bumper, and sliders on.

Mine, even with getting a p0401 and the engine running in 'safe mode', gets 10-11. I'm still carrying a heck of a lot more weight than you are. Are you correcting out for tire size/miles?
Did you get a bad tank of gas?
Any engine codes popping?
Did you check your tire pressure? I run my 315 Duratracs at 50psi - but they're a very soft compound tire and shave off 2mpg or so just by putting them on the truck.
Sticking caliper? Parking brake seized on?
Clogged catalytic converter?

5.5-7.5 mpg tells me there's something not quite right there.

I got 10mpg at 7000+lbs fully loaded a month ago through Colorado - and I consider myself to be a 'worst case scenario' for FZJ80 mpg.

Are you correcting out for tire size/miles?

I think this is correct... I plugged my SCII into my Lexus for our trip to Minneapolis this past weekend and it was readying I was getting 7-8 MPG so I reset it and it went closer to 12-13. So I believe I have to go back through and make sure all the settings are correct. I think when my truck died I lost all my settings and just going back and changing tire size and fuel tank size was throwing something off.

Another trip idea...

I was contemplating doing a bit of winter camping this upcoming February - at Lake McConaughy.

I'm thinking February 18-20 (Sat, Sun, President's day).

February 18, leave Omaha at 9:00 AM or so and pick up a convoy of whoever is going with me along the way. Eat lunch on the road, be at the lake just in time to set up camp as the sun is going down.

Sunday 19th, break camp, drive around the lake/beach/woods most of the day - find another spot to camp, etc...

Monday 20th, break camp, cruise around a bit and find our way back East.

Yes, it will be cold. Yes, I'm sleeping in a tent. Yes, there will be fire, we'll be hauling giant logs over the beach, etc...

So - is anyone interested?

When is the next meet and greet around here? There has to be some trails that we can drive somewhere around here, maybe even the bluffs? Anybody know?
