Peer pressure - buy it. The only things I have had to do - replacing Ts, exhaust, tires (peace of mind), and most importantly new Polk speakers instead of the crappy Mark Levinsons.

I'm planning on it! I'm going to build storage into the back first.

You see there is the problem with these. It's never hop in and drive, a little PM here and there and all is well. It's this gosh darn site, all of the amazing vendors pumping out their sick wares, and this free country we live in with all of the places to go. What cool thing can I buy or do to it next! Whether you DIY or not it's still money that would never be spent on an Accord. The extra you'll be spending on gas should be your last concern. Slippery slope it is...that only can be traveled with a Cruiser!

Do it :steer:

Buy it. It's probably not even leaking oil. Tighten the valve covers and use the correct washers when you do the fluids.

depending on your usage gas will be a killer. i spend 60 ever 4 days i drive bout 30 miles a day

My work should only be 2.5 miles one way. the beach is 16 miles and the mountains 250. I read that I need to put premium in it? Is that correct?

I plan on doing all my own work. The point is half to have a badass offroad vehicle, but also to have a good project for the weekends.

To my point exactly. You have the sickness already :).

I'm trying to decide if I should sell my reliable 2015 honda accord for something I actually enjoy driving to help reduce debt.

Hey I'm for ya, not that this isn't known already but that BA vehicle is going to come at a price. Common to want bumpers, lift, tires...can be big money.

Definitely agree get out of debt. Will make enjoying the new rig much more pleasant. Best of luck and post pics when you get it.

Haha, I've been doing my own work for years on cars I hated. So it's exciting to get to work on a burly v8 on a badass platform.

After consideration and finding out how much the guy is going to sell it to me for... I decided to keep honda AND buy the land cruiser. I will just upgrade slower and fix as I can afford. I'm moving to start my first job in a completely different region of the country with no friends or family... So I don't really want to be stranded somewhere or have to rent a car while I'm waiting to get time to work on my car. I'm excited to get started though!

You'll get varying opinions to that question, I'm in the "regular is fine" camp.

Regarding the jump from a '15 Accord to an old Land Cruiser, I'm all for it. As other said, there will be more maintenance and it's a far less efficient vehicle, but I love mine and can't imagine not have an LC in the garage.

Sounds like a plan. I have a daily driver also but I really want to start driving the cruiser daily.

I'm in a different camp. We drive 40,000 miles or so every year. I could park the cruiser, buy a brand new Accord Hybrid that gets a stupid 49mpg and the fuel savings alone would pay my car payment every month. So yeah, fiscally, it doesn't make sense for me to drive this beast. I'll be making some hard decisions soon, but until then, I'm enjoying every minute.

I love my 98 LX despite the absurd fuel costs. I've put 4k in a little over 2 months of ownership. The 2016 Outback 3.6r has been sitting idle most of that time (damn fine car, but not as "fun"). I smile every time I drive the machine....even though she costs me $50/fillup every 5-6 days. I intend to do most of my own work, but will pay for major things like the TB/WP. If you find one in decent condition for a fair price, jump on it. I'm thrilled I did. Yes, it costs money. Yes, it's older and needs more attention. Yes, I understood those going in. Yes, I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

My 2005 has 148,000 miles rust free Las Vegas /Texas LX470, with 2 inch old man emu lift Slee differential drop slee rock sliders BFG AT/K02's plus new steering rack all maintenance up-to-date shouldn't have to do anything for the next 30,000 miles, I drive about 7000 miles a year

Regular gas gets me a consistent 15.1 mixed driving. I don't notice a difference between Costco gas, premium at Marathon or regular at Marathon. Driving the back country roads from daughter's college gets me in the 18-19 range. When my son drives it to school and lead foot's it, we are looking in the 11-12 range. But that's better than the FJ40 and FJ80 on any day.

Thanks for the info! I'm loving learning about this.

I have a suspicion that once I start driving the cruiser I will end up not driving the accord. Just a theory though. So i'll keep the car until i figure out the cruiser. then sell it for money for mods.
