I’m trying to decide whether I should take a chance on purchasing a 2015 LX with 40k miles for $49k. It has luxury package, rear dvd, adaptive cruise control, mark levinson sound system. The only problem is that is has been in a low speed front collision. The front bumper, grill, headlights, and camera have been replaced. All OEM part were used to fix it. I spoke to the actual Lexus authorized body shop and they confirmed there was no mechanical or structural damage whatsoever. It has been regularly serviced by Lexus and undergone several Lexus inspections after the repair with no problems noted.

Should I buy it or stay away from any vehicle damage?

Thanks for your input!

I would never buy a car with known accident history.

There are plenty of LXs around.

I would pass; I just picked up a car with 20,000 fewer miles, no accidents for $2k more (including delivery).

I wouldn't care whatsoever about the accident. FWIW, I have been in several accidents with 200s and nothing whatsoever has been problematic. What is a lot more likely to be an issue is actually buying a 200 from one of the dudes on this site. I have replaced the bumper, quarter panel, and hood on my 2016 (rear ended a pickup that stopped on ice). I replaced the bumper and quarter panel on my 2008 when I was attacked by a garage. I had the door almost torn off of a 2011 200 that was my wife's truck on a narrow street. The truck you are looking at has likely never been off road, never been abused, etc. that is what you need to look at.

If you're willing to fly and drive, I'd look at the white LX at the dealer in Fort Lauderdale. They seemed willing to deal when I spoke to them. 29k miles and CPO.

No, I feel like $50k is to much money for a 13-15 no matter how low the mileage. I have a 13 which is essentially the same as a 15 and its starting to feel dated to me. I'd hold out for a 16 with similar or slightly more miles, they can be had for about $5k more.

Here is one about 500 miles from you:

Used 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser For Sale | Stanleytown VA | JTMCY7AJ6G4041483

If that was any 16 color but black, it'd be in my driveway as it's only 50 miles from me. But alas, it's a solid opportunity for someone not picky about color.

To the OP: I would say it's about resell if I was in your position. If you intend to keep and hang on, it sounds like an okay proposition. But you will get docked if you ever intend to sell. It seems like non-wrecked examples can be had for only a couple thousand more. But maybe there's still room to negotiate current price.

Sounds like a steal i would take advantage of that opportunity. I think 2016 and they our Fugly but that’s opinion the best looking 200 series is 2013 through 15.

Thank you for all your advice! I skipped the one I was looking at with damage and just purchased one unexpectedly while on vacation in Pensacola today. I had looked at it online, but didn’t expect them to come off their $55k price to meet my budget. I was pleasantly surprised that they sold it to me for $51k, plus gave me an extra $1k above what I could have got for my trade in any where else. So, I feel like I got t for $50k. It is fully loaded with 41k miles and no previous accidents. Now, I get to drive 8.5 hours home tomorrow in style!

I noticed there is a sticker on the window for Polysteel, and it has a clear bra, both installed by dealer at purchase. I know Polysteel is an exterior and interior protection, but not sure if anyone has any positive or negative feelings about either.

I’ve updated my avatar with a pic of my new LX.

Wow, go on vacation and come back with a new ride! :)

What year LX? Did it come with CPO warranty?

Thanks! It’s a 2015. No it didn’t come as CPO. The previous owner bought it as a CPO and had it three months before upgrading to the 16 model on the same used lot. I heard it doesn’t transfer to another owner. I’m trying to decide if I should get an extended warranty on it or not. The manufacturer warranty runs out next month. The dealer offered me one from Protective for $2150, but I didn’t take it. I haven’t done any research on them.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Warranties are worth their weight in gold on a German or Italian car, but this is one of the most robust and reliable vehicles in the world. For me, a warranty you have to pay for is a waste of money. If it already was CPO, great, but I wouldn’t worry about it if it’s not.
