I am springing my 40 over with 60 series rear springs in the rear and 55 series fronts in the front. The goal here is a moderate wheeler that rides good. I'm thinking Bilsteins. Have you guys had more success with anything else?

Bil's were the best shocks I had with leaf springs..

Another option is to get a set of coil-over shocks and not add any coils. Yes, more expensive, but they're gonna be better shocks, and can upgrade with you as you do..

On my 60 I used Doestch techs. They were GREAT for that rig, and they were very affordable as well. IIRC like half of the bils. I may do those again on my 40 build. Theyre a stiffer shock.

I'm not sure I want a stiffer shock. I think I may try the bilsteins. It will definitely be the most I've ever paid for a set of shocks.

I just replace my 5150's after 4-5 years of abuse, went with 5125's through Bilstein Shocks, Edelbrock Shocks and more: eShocks.com

Good price, free shipping for orders over $200. Did multiple valving, lighter in the rear....testing for the first time this weekend, see how it goes.

Get 14" stroke shocks for all 4 corners and adjust mounts as needed :) (14" fronts are easy, 12-14" rears should be too)

Do you have longer shock towers in the front? I was planning on leaving mine the same, and going for more down travel than up, since my springs will be flat at ride height anyway.

Edit: why did you decide to "downgrade"?

had the 5150's because the 5125's were unobtanium when I needed shocks last time....no advantage tho unless you run highspeed for longer runs....which my FJ40 doesn't...

I run hoops in front, had MetalTech make me a custom pair...the Ford towers might be tall enough if placed right, or I've seen some 'aftermarket' stock-looking but taller ones out there....don't recall from who tho...

my front springs are VERY flat....and I have 4" upstroke with 10" down :)

Sounds good. I will wait and do measurements once I get everything welded up and weight on the springs.

Are you doing the 170/60 valving in the rear and 255/70 in the front? How much weight do you have in the rear? Carry any tools? Let me know how it works once you test.

Bilstein

255/70 front, 270/50 rear

small bag of tools, standard recovery gear plus hose for the air and weld stuff for the MobiArc...have a rear seat too....'may' have 4 in there at some point this weekend....we'll see how it works :)

270/50...That means it doesn't take as much force to compress, but will rebound quicker? What will that be like for the ride? I guess you will find that out soon.

I know quite a few folks who love the BBCS...great control, great ride...

great warranty too...everyone I know with those has used it many times when the shocks leak :)

damn .. I was thinking in this option ..

" Tube ends are rolled closed for leak-free construction "

I almost believe this part .. :frown:

I have a pair of Fox and KING shocks up for grabs. the Fox are emulsion 2.0s w/ 14" travel. The KINGS are 2.5, 12" travel emulsions if you're interested

bilsteins 12" all the way arould with 55 rears and mod front close to your 55 fronts. Im using about all the shock on my rear suspension. Front i think im bumping on them. But if I want more travel Im just arcing my springs to much

Does anyone know a mathematical relationship for valving versus angle of shock mounting? I could probably figure it out, but there are several variable that I do not know right now.
