I feel like I've read about a thousand different posts on various sites, yet I've run into a problem coming up with replacement shocks. I need some guidance:

Ive got a 2000 100 with OME torsion bars and 866 springs. That lift was on there when I bought the truck, as were the OME Nitrocharger sport shocks - which I'm convinced are nothing more than solid steel bars, with a yellow tube and a black, fixed cover over them. They're, easily, the worst shocks I've had on any vehicle!

In an effort to make the truck ride in a way that wouldn't shake the glass out of it, I replaced the front shocks with IronMan Foam Cell shocks (these are the smaller, less expensive foam cells, not the well-regarded foam cell pros). Well, they were slightly better, but not good enough that I didn't prefer to drive another vehicle.

I decided to bite the bullet and look into maybe some foam cell pros, but I've recently been advised that the "new" FCPs are not the same as the "old" FCPs. I'm not sure what's changed, but I've been told to maybe consider something else. And that's where I am: what shocks ARE out there for a 1.5" to 2" lifted 100, and do any of them ride worth a crap?

I see a lot of shocks touting the ability to rebuild them. To me, that's just indicating that they may need to be rebuilt, but I want a shock that lasts and doesn't require rebuilding.....like a Bilstein or KYB etc. I just haven't been able to locate a proper size from one of these mfrs.

Anyone have any suggestions on what may be out there worth considering? I use the truck off-road occasionally, but not in a way that would need a specialized shock. I have to believe there must be some suitable options out there for a 100 that won't rattle your teeth. None of my other Land Cruisers ride even remotely as bad as this truck. Suggestions?

There's the Bilstein 5160 which is new. $210/corner.

I am in the same boat as you. I made a huge mistake and got rid of AHC. If I did not have a arb front I would switch to LC shocks now I cry every time I go out and it is my DD.

Finding a set of oem torsion bars would probably help a ton.

I'm pretty happy with the Tough Dog 41mm/45mm adjustable...

(Enough so, that I just put a set on a 2nd of our vehicles)

The 41mm front shocks, are a night and day difference compared to OME.

The 45mm adjustable rears (with adjusters that actually do something) are pretty darn nice too.

This is a no-brainer: OEM Toyota shocks all around. You’ll be happy as a clam. They’re only like $40/shock too.
Unless I’m looking at this wrong, I’m thinking stock-length shocks wouldn’t work with a lift....

They’re not real lift kits: The OME “lift” springs are the same length as stock springs (some are actually shorter than stock), so the OEM Toyota shocks work just fine. Most of these “lift” kits for the 100 are just heavier duty coils and torsion bars that have a higher load/weight bearing capacity than stock. They don’t actually provide more suspension travel. Plenty of us on here are running OEM Toyota shocks with “lift” springs and torsion bars.

So if I swap over to Toyota OEM shocks with ARB would I be ok.

Yes, as long as you don’t buy the J springs for 80 series (eg, 863J), then the OEM Toyota shocks work just fine. For example, these 100 series ARB/OME coil “lift” springs will all work with OEM Toyota shocks: 860, 863, 865, and 866.

Something basic. If you haven't checked the front droop it may be that the front is over lifted. (check one of the posts here about droop spec) If you do not have enough droop the truck will ride like crap no matter who's shock you put on it. It is easy to crank the T-bar, but there is a limit to how far you can go.

Tough Dogs shocks! I had them for about a year, I put at least 2k miles just on dirt another 13k miles on pavement. I think they are the best bang for your buck. Performs extremely well on road, excellent ride comfort. And off-road they are pretty good as long as you're not bombing down the trail.

I recently switched to ICONs Stage 3. If your budget allows it, I think it is totally worth the price! Especially if this your dedicated adventure rig. I can easily go 2x the speed down the trail with the ICONs, saving me so much time when getting to the campsites, and it just pure fun to bomb down the open trail. As for the really rutted area, the ICONs can be set to firm so that the rig does not rock back and forth like a boat. My GF loves it, way more enjoyable when you're not bobbing your head side to side every other minute.

I have the Stage 3 after using OME and then Fox, they are the best. What settings do you use? Have you found a good setting for heavy washboard? Washboard is pretty tough to address with limited front travel & the weight of these rigs.

When I am on the pavement I have it set at 2 clicks all around. When I'm on the trail, I have it set around 7 or 8 clicks depending on how rutted it is. Also airing down to about 16-17 PSI. If you're dealing with washboards, the best thing is to air down.

I have to say I'm intrigued by the OEM shock suggestion. I'm definitely going to look into that. In the meantime, where are you guys sourcing your ICON Stage 3 shocks, and what do they run?
If budget is the game, then OEM for sure.

But I got the Icons from Metal Tech, but wait for Black Friday since they're 20% off. They are $2600 for the shocks alone at full retail price. I got them for 2k shipped. Pretty good deal if you wait.

The Ironman Foam Cell Pro shocks work with stock height and are a huge upgrade from the OEM or OME shocks. Great warranty, great ride, a lot cheaper than the Icons, and very highly rated by 100-series owners on 'MUD. Search them up.
