Bring it and we'll see if it will fit. Have to say it looks huge compared to what was on there. Today I bought a pitman arm puller and a ball joint fork. Gonna get jammin on it tomorrow. Spending money I was saving for T-shirts!! :frown: Always something. When are you coming up?? I've got the sofa and table outside but covered up. Its a comfortable couch to sit and sleep on. Table I think is missing some wing nuts for the legs but I'll bet you have some of those huh??;)
 
Copy that. I will be at work Friday until about 4. Sunday-....?? Not sure but I'd better have the connecting rod off by then and getting it straightenned out. I'll probably be around. Look for the cruiser up on ramps.:lol::lol:

Down to WCM tomorrow for sleeve selection. Then I gotta drill it and get one of you guys to tack it for superior performance at the high speeds I travel. :rolleyes:
 
Got what I needed, drilled 3 holes about 1/4 inch. One near the ends and one in the middle. Then I got it hammered on-it was a tight fit- and after I get it welded I'm gonna see about replacing the part that connects it to the pitman arm. It is slightly bent and while the ball joint seems to be fairly tight and moves freely I can see where the hole it comes out of has a broken piece on one side making the hole more like a figure 8 than just round. Who knows how long that's been like that. :frown:
 
I'm gonna order a complete set of tie rod ends from CoolCruisers in Texas when I get paid Thursday. They want $90 and that's a good sale price for a full set. Since that one was too shot to reuse I'll bet the others are ready for replacing too. Just hope I'm ready in time. :confused:
 
Mucho Gras Jesse for making those improvements to "my rod". Daphne said she hopes it is stiffer than before! I will stop by some time and pick it up. Leave it where Bobby had put it in case you're not home when I get there. :p

Jerod, if you're gonna be here the weekend of the 15th(and you're done putting your sliders on) I should have my steering back together for you to inspect. I'll jump up and down on your sliders and you can jump up and down on my "rod". :hillbilly:

Stopped By Jesse's place to pick up my drag link. Thanks Jesse for welding that up for me. Now if my TRE's would show up I can get things back together. HeII, I'm running out of time! :crybaby:
 
So I'm replacing my alternator belt since I found some serious wear on it but not the others. I'm on my back on the ground prying the alternator over so Bobby, who is up above, can pop the belt over onto the pulley and he keeps saying"what's that sound Dad?" Me of course being half deaf says"I don't hear nuthin". Several times this goes on and then Bobby says "Dad! it's Smoking!!" I see it from down below and leap up to find that I had pried the alternator so far that the charge contact(which I had connected an auxiliary charge cable directly over to the battery last year), it had come in contact with the exhaust heat shield and shorted, turning my auxiliary cable into basically a toaster element! Not wanting to take time to disconnect anything I grabbed a big pair of wire cutters and hacked the cable in two killing the flow of juice. Now I have spent a couple hours in the hot sun putting it all back together-minus the Aux. cable- and it starts up and runs well enough. I was concerned I might have fried more than just the cable but apparently it's OK. Now to go out and get the drag link back together.
 
Woo-Hoo! Or maybe I just better shut up since it aint road tested yet? But both wheels turn the same way at the same time and steering feels pretty god. Onward to other things.

I've learned something today- pitman arm pullers are not all the same and usually can't be used to pop ball joints loose. Some threads on steering rods are reversed and electricity will flow from a car battery like water from a dam with a hole drilled in it! But when it does it burns like fire!! First time I ever caught Moby smoking! :rolleyes:

Oh yaa, don't let Bobby drive the truck!
 
OK, so I should have known it wouldn't be that simple! ^^^^! Everything reconnected properly but it appears there is no charge coming off the alternator! For you electrical know it alls what would you check for first that might have been "fried" when we had our short circuit today??? :crybaby: The engine runs ok but headlights are dim, no dash lights at all. Guess I'll have to check my fuse panel in the morning. Is there a main fuse for the alternator?? Hopefully It is something simple, if I end up needing a new alternator it will probably mean not making the McGrew run. Hoping the brain trust out there have a few ideas, Chris. I'm going to bed- see you in the morning.:meh:
 
Honestly I would have the alt bench tested.
 
I've tried everything to get those links apart on the + side of the battery but even with pliers can't seem to get them open. Sprayed them and everything. What is inside?? A large fuse of some type??:hmm:


OK, got all those apart. They are just connectors and none of the 3 show any signs of overheating from yesterday.

Did you check for voltage at the terminal on the Alt? Or at the battery? I'm not sure if the charge wire on the alt goes through a fuse or not.... I'm sure we can figure this out.... :D

I don't have a working meter! Maybe later today, mine needs a 9 volt battery.:eek:

Connectors are all ok. I will test alternator output later when my meter is working. I did notice today, when the key is turned "on" the battery charge light does NOT come on like it did before. All fuses in the fuse box have been replaced even though none appeared to be burned out. Still nothing.

My newly electrified meter says the battery is 11.8 volts engine off. Checking the charge line on the alternator with the engine running it shows 0.5 volts. Think I cooked the alternator?? Can they be rebuilt?? ( by me ) :confused:

Napa has Reman's at about $150- no can do!
