I remember reading somewhere that there was a recall on land cruisers many years ago to fix a problem with the shifter rattling. I have this problem in my 97 and its just getting annoying now. If i have it in drive the shifter vibrates and rattles. I guess the previous owner did not get this recall fixed. Does anyone have any clue on how to get this fixed besides paying a dealer to do it. Is there a part that I need to fix it. I remember reading something about washers or bushings but can not find that article or post anywhere.
thanks in advance

mine rattles too but mine is because the driveshafts are as straight as female profile. Going by the VIN you should be able to find out if your truck received a recall treatment. dunno if mine ever did - not from me fer sher

Should I be able to tell if the recall treatment was done based on a carfax report or do I need to go to the dealership?

at the dealership they can type in your vin and see any outstanding recalls, but they only do them if you ask, I think thats how it goes.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, CDan, but I believe this TSB fix (not a recall) only applied to the bus tranny model years and not the *more advanced* '95-97 models with the A343F tranny. ;) (I don't think mooker or Junk's '97 models are included in the TSB)

Forgot to mention that the shifter rattles when I am stopped and still in drive...not when driving...it just vibrates and makes noise when sitting still in drive...

bump....CDan?

some movement is going to happen expecially when accelerating or hard passing, then engine moves so the tranny moves. That is why there are rubber engine mounts as well as a rubber tranny mount. There is vibration in the engine that is transfered into the tranny. the shifter is sitting on top of the tranny. It will not be vibration free always. Now excesive movement may be a indication of problems in some areas. Not properly tuned engine, bad rubber mounts, ETC. If you are not familar (meaning seeing other trucks other than your own, various years, loose bolt that hold the shifter to tranny) then you may want to take it to some one else to see if you have a problem.
Yes the TSB was for the ealier years, If I remember right, the t-case shifter has different thickness of material with a little more give to absorb some of these inhearent vibrations. It is more a make it look better fix. The fix is not really designed to fix a problem, IMHO. later robbie
