Hey All,

I'm fairly new to my 92 and it didn't come with an OM. From doing a little research on various threads am I correct in saying that the "Shift Lock Override" button is only to shift the car out of park should some automated trigger (burnt brake light fuse, wire problem from the battery) prevent me from doing so?

Can it have any affect when pressing it while actually driving? Can doing this hurt anything? Also, when you press it should it depress and stick down, and then return to a higher position when pressed again?

Am I to think of it as a neat safety gizmo kind of like the "Clutch Start/Cancel" on my old 80's mini-pick-up?

That button just allows you to shift the lever without using the brake ( and for the reasons you mentioned). I use it when I'm working on the truck to get it into neutral without sitting in the truck, and without the key in the ignition.

I wouldn't push that button while your driving, especially since it sounds like yours is sticking in the down position. This removes the detents that keep you from shifting into reverse while running down the road (which would be disastrous:crybaby: ).

you shouldn't have to push the button twice, it should pop back up when you get the shifter in the right position. Sounds like yours might be sticking.

Thanks for the response, I've never tried to use it properly, so I will run out and check proper operation now.

On another note, do you run those 32's with the stock suspension and no rub?

where's that button?

Right out front above the lights on the shifter itself.
You can pull the center trim, start at the center console then 4 screws and it will ift off, check the linkage and you are likely to find spilled soda gumming it up. open in up and it will make more sense.

Well, I feel stupid, my brakelights shorted out (dang trailer wiring), and I forced the shifter cause I didn't know my brakelights were shorted out, and didn't even think of the override. duh!

on your 97 it is under a cover. same general spot.

And you can purchase the button and the sticker to go with it from CDan and install it. I did it to my '94 and use it every time I want to move the vehicle without starting the engine.

Too bad the 2nd gear start can't be retro-fitted, too.

My 94 had it already

To move it without starting it can't you just turn the key to "ON" and then put your foot on the brake and shift it to neutral?

I ran my 285/75R16 (33") Goodyear MTR tires without rub before I put the lift on.

YMMV

Yes, no rub at all with the 32's. As Grench said 33's will fit with no rub too.

So the tire is the 32x11.50R15, is the rim you have the stock 92 15x7, or the stock 93 and up 16x8 rim?

Dont feel bad eagle you would hav needed to pull out the cover and then stuck your key down to disengage the switch. Yet another thing that makes the 92 more better.
3FE POWA !!!!

And... We can start out in 2nd, without it downshifting to 1st.

Yes, the tire is a BFG AT 32x11.50x15 on the stock aluminum rim, which I've seen here as 7"es wide, and also 8"es wide. I think they are 7"es wide.

I've had the chance to buy some 15x10's but I think I like sticking with the stock rim. I want it to look stock, with a little added toughness. A sleeper of sorts.

I'm getting ready to do the 1st phase of maint. with axle rebuild etc. Then I'll have a 2nd Phase, that will include an OME Med. lift, 33" BFG's, 4:56 gears (I'm not going any bigger with the tires), and some ARB lockers.

I'm not going fo the Bling, as she is just a Tractor, you know.:D

Sotkcers on a 91-92 is 15x7.
FWIW
Dave

Sounds like we'll be building just about the same Tractor! I like the sleeper term all the way, thanks for the info.

For reference I had no problems running 32x 10.50 r15's on a stock 91 with 8" width aftermarket rims with stock suspension.
