"Shift Lock Override"-'92 w/out an OM

My 95 won't start w/o pressing
...the shift lock override. Is this an easy fix or is it a sign of something else? What should I check?? I have the brake pressed but just get a click-click. I have to jiggle and press the switch down with a screwdriver until I find just the right spot.
It's been frustrating and embarrassing.
