Hello all, looking for advice on the correct OEM manual shift knob for my 1992 73. I'm assuming it was pretty universal sizing across model ranges, but just want to confirm before ordering. Thank you!

Should be universal. What transmission do you have? The H55 came in a lot of 60 and 70 series applications. The knobs are not difficult to find, even in the US.

Start here:

335042211113 FJ75,HZJ75,PZJ70..PIC,SOT BLUISH GRAY,TRIM1#
335042211156 FJ75,PZJ70..PIC,SOT SABLE,TRIM4#

I may not have your exact model but you should be able to get the part number for your model with a bit of searching on their website.

You can order from "Partsouq.com" or try to find a more local supplier.

Generally, when I do order from them, I have the part in about a week.

@jmylie, thanks for the link. This is what I came up with as well. Thanks for confirming!

Not sure which one you are looking for but the 80 series version easily replaced my original version. H55F here. (HZJ77)

Mine came from this ebay listing. NEW Genuine OEM Toyota Leather 5 speed gear shift knob Land Cruiser 1990-2007 | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/272048885523

Original vs. New comparison. I kept the old one and put it away but honestly don't think I will ever return back to it as long I own the cruiser because the new one is way better.

Stupid question, but are they all right-hand thread? I got a replacement knob for my '89 FJ70, and I feel like I'm about to break the shift lever. I just wanted to check before I put too much force into it. Perhaps the previous owner put a bunch of locktite on the threads?

Hello,

They are right hand.

In old age, they get stuck in the lever. On the other hand, never underestimate the PO.

A mix of WD-40 and (gentle) blows with a rubber mallet is good enough to loosen the knob. A syringe is good to deliver WD-40 into the threads.

If there is in fact thread locker, a solvent (such as acetone, nail enamel remover) may dissolve it, at least enough to use the mallet.

Put some white grease on the threads when installing the new knob.

Take the chance and do the same with the transmission shifting lever knob.

hello !

I also need to replace the shift knob in my 1990 LJ73.

how do I take the old one off, just by turning to the left and unscrew it?

Hello,

That is all it takes. Lefty loosey, as the saying goes.
