I'm planning on replacing my worn drivers seat soon. I started wearing after the BP51 lift. I guess I've been siding too much in and out of the truck. Its part number 7107260A91B1 and about $650. 130,000 on the clock.
With that done i'm thinking about Sheepskin car covers. With the time I've spent in Australia, every family member had sheepskin (wool) car seats But I never see them in the US. Has anyone found a good source or have feedback on them? PLEASE don't tell me you'll cook in the summer heat because I know that's not the case.
Thanks,
Ant

This is why I keep my factory running boards. At 6'4", I don't need them, but use them in order to keep this damage from happening.
As for sheepskin covers, I remember them from the 90's in a friends Jetta. They were soft... :meh:

Found these bad boys on Amazon...

One thing I love about my 2009 is that the Vinyl seats look practically new even after 210,000 miles.

The prior owner had them and a steering wheel spinning knob on when I bought my 200. He was an older gentleman. I took them all off immediately since they looked tacky even though it is kind of cool to one hand a u-turn. I bought this seat cover for the 100 but it is much lighter and doesn't match the color 100%. It is more tan than taupe. This picture is in the 200.

Hard to break old habits. The running boards and A pillar handle would have made a difference over 9 years. BUT I can’t find a comfortable way to get out of the truck using those. Also at 6-4 it’s just a little hop to get out.

On a related note, I have been told that Katzkin makes a full leather replacement kit for then 200. They don't list it on their website so you have to call. Thinking about going this route too. My drivers seat has seen better days and I'm at 64k.

Here’s mine at 130k

That seat is a great candidate for a quick resto. I'm not sure where you are in NY, but see if there's a FibreNew franchise by you. Obviously it's franchise dependent but I see great work coming out of many of their shops.

Another option is my local leather guy travels most of the East Coast on the weekends, on his pinned post you can see his entire schedule through fall. He'll be in NY/NJ in June. Browse his work, great stuff.

If you rather replace, understand that as well. You can probably restore and cover for less than buying a new seat bottom if that matters to you.

Regular high quality leather treatment will go a long way toward preventing the wear in the first place.

As for sheep skin.. can’t help. I do plan to get some escape gear covers soon.. from what I’ve seen they are about as good as you can get.

what do you recommend for routine leather treatment in terms of products and frequency? thx

I've had a couple friends (one is a detailing nerd) recommend leatherique and it seems to get rave reviews online despite the price.. you can look up before-after videos on youtube and it's pretty dramatic. I haven't used my kit yet, for the record.

Also it is confirmed to work on the vinyl-coated leather in most cars now. Once a year is good.. I think mr detail nerd does his twice.

It helps to use the stuff on a hot day where the sun baking on a closed car helps it get deep into the leather, for the record.

It's the real deal - PITA as it's a two step process, but once deep cleaned you can use the "2nd" step as a quick "touch up". Another tip for the deep clean is to cover the seats w trash bags while sitting in the sun to get the temp up. As bloc mentioned it's really best suited for non sealed leathers, but does work well with the LC/LX coated leather.

Oh, and as question was on sheepskins - had 'em on the ratty seats of a Peugeot 504 wagon we had in the '80's - fantastically comfortable, they were actuall sheep skins w canvas starps to secure - looked pretty ghetto from the back seat.

Thanks for the suggestion and feedback. It's mostly the drivers seat side panels that I seem to take the brunt of wear/tear from entering and exiting.

Man that seat is just now getting broken in! The leather is finally getting good and soft, dont change it now! That part on the side thats wearing is actually vinyl, not leather.

Get this from Toyota dealer.....
