shaving the housing

I ran some trails Friday with 1st gen that had 1" taken off the bottom of the housing and was wondering if it's possible to do to the 80 housings.
I do realize anything is relatively possible.
But is there enough room below the ring gear to give the 80 housing a flat bottom?

Totally, but I'd just ditch the drain plug(weld shut/smooth) and bottom studs for draining.

You can gain about 3/4" if doing this though. Lotta work, keep a diff mounted while carving it up and welding, that flange will warp a bunch.
