Shattered Ring Gear

Anyone ever seen a ring gear broke like this? I am guessing that a tooth broke off and wedged or fell or got pulled back into the r&p and just blew it to peices?

P.s. i am looking for a detroit case if anyone knows of one available anywhere

I've seen similar carnage. The thing to remember is the old adage about the "straw that broke the camel's back." Things like this sometimes are just one incident of too much for a part to handle. But more often it is a cumulative effect of various stresses and then just a final incident that hits a previous weak spot just right.

I was going to guess that it was a cheap Chinese aftermarket ring gear, but by my count it looks like 4:10 a 4.10 gear.

V8 with really low gears in a heavy rig with big tires?

it's a factory 4.11 r&p that was heat/cryo'd by Bobby about 2 years ago. my rig is around 4k.....with a 350/th400/atlas3.0 and 40" iroks.....i'm guessing it was just it's time to go but i've never seen one broken that bad

The heat/cryo made it strong and hard, but brittle. Not too surprising given your setup. Time for a 14 bolt.
