I've surfed here quiet for the longest time, but now it's X-mas break and time to build.
Have an '82 60 SOA, going to run sb 350 forward a ranger overdrive, stock 4 spd etc.
What springs will give this front end comfortable ride, good artic., longevity.
what are you running Cruiserdrew? Freds40/60? everyone???
While I'm at it, what degree of cut & turn?:bang:

so is it SOA currently?

IMHO, stock springs (with a long leaf or two added) and no SR

Degree of CNT is generally ~ 14ish. But it really depends on the setup. There is no single answer.

currently SOA, flat stock spring, bushings toast, tire wear ridiculous, and desiring to tear it down and upgrade to the most current config.

I'm liking the ride on my SR. I had some other wheelers ride along and comment on how smooth it was on the trail (for leafs anyways). I made a hybrid pack with LONG mains (58") and stacked from there. I have a heavy diesel to support but the pack works pretty good. IMO a longer spring is going to give you a smoother ride. I also wanted to stay low on my SOA and having long leafs and shackles in front would have been rock finders.

Condsidering a SR to get the moving parts under and more protected.I understand that many have avoided messing with stock config. b'cuz it works fine.
I've considered 4 link in the past to be the better choice for a trail only rig but I want the wife to be able to handle this truck when she drops me off at the ridge top with my Mtn Bike.
Would like to build this once, to be a driveable family wagon, able to be wheeled and still get the groceries.

Are you going with stock width. I'm 4 linking the rear with an 80 axle (+ 6")
and exrendeng the front knuckles out 2 5/8" per side with Longfields.
I was wanting a little more sidehill manners. You also use leaves with an 80.
The rear discs are cool with the e-brakes. Just swap to an 80 cable.

I've taken a close look at your pics Drew.
I dig the 6 studs. Was impressed with those while looking at a site or two. Who did you get yours from?
where can I get a quality cnt done?

Stock springs, a few extra long leaves and you're good. My turn came to 16 degrees from horizontal. 14 would be fine.

SR is your choice. It does increase approach angle a little. To be honest, I can't tell the difference, my 40 has a custom SR and my 60 does not. If you do a SR, strongly consider a long travel front shaft. On balance I don't think you need SR.

New bushings do firm up the handling.

I've been driving my SOA 60 as a daily driver for the last few weeks and it's fine. No surprises and it actually handles pretty well, even on the freeway.

I live near a good driveline shop. The guys there told me they have made drivelines for cruisers bfore.NO problem with that.
I'm considering the SR to allow for long and slack leafs. What I have seen avail. as stock stacks don't appear to have very much flex as compared to a few buddies who are running alcans or chevy springs in 4 runrs and minis.
I don't want to smash up shackles on approaches in places like the granite bowls ledges etc.
I've watched more than one j**p break this way while trying to follow.

I would like to go that direction eventually.Right now I'm interested in the pack you made. 52" are the stock rear spring length right?
I'm actually going to try running 80 coils. I've got three different sets, stock,
arb lights and ARB heavies.
I'm staying with leafs up front, 52" custom pack

The non bash factor is IMHO the only reason to do a SR on a Cruiser.

The stock leaves can flex like mad. How much flex do you want?

no the fronts are around 44" with a centered pin. The rears are about 47", with an offset pin. I don't have a stock set around so I don't remember the exact but it seems the pin was about 22" from the front so you could use the rears up front and move the hanger in a SOA.

I'm looking to achieve enough flex to run 37s for DD and 39.5x13.5 iroks wheelin.I also wanted to get the front spring mount forward about 3" so that all bash will roll from front bumper
to tire face seamlessly.lo slung ultra flex seems to be one direction I can go to prevent rollover factor of the wagon.

Went out with a tape right after that post.:whoops:I had those #'s in my head. 1:beer:2many before login.
I'm thinking 63" chevys in the rear and something around 52" to 56" in the front.Idont want to go too high over SOA but would like to get all the drop out that I can within good measure. My 60 came to me with a SOA that was done by a 'hack'.When I bought it, PO stated that the rev arch springs he had under it were great for wheelin.Softer than need be springs don't have very nice manners on the highway. And bodylean isn't very comfy either.
Any idea where I could come across springs with 52 to56 range eye to eye?
