Hey Bryan, looks good, do you happen to have any pictures of the truck on the road, not flexing, how was your shocks before, any sagging?

So, I would need shims to correct the castor angle, that will add to the cost, any thing esle I would need? Would the stock shocks be ok?

The AAl's from MAF come to a cheaper price then the shackles and the shims, any drawbacks to them? Do I need new shocks with that setup?

I thought I had some pictures of my truck on 33's and stock suspension just on the street, but I cant find them. I lost most of my pictures when my hard drive crashed. Sorry.

I have this one from the same set above. Gives you some idea of how much spring sag I had and how much the tires fill the wheel wells. My springs/shocks had life life, but were definitely well worn with 180k, rear was lower than front as usual with these trucks. The 62 springs have proved themselves to be a lot more resilient than the 60 springs over the years. I think they may have more leafs than the 60 springs and almost always have less sag.

You can try searching on here for other peoples rigs stock on 33's to see if there are any better pictures.

I think you can get by fine with stock shocks with extended shackles and/or AAL's but not sure on this. But, you could probably find a set of new shocks pretty cheap if you want to replace them like Rancho or something. I think MAF also sells some. Don't really know much about shocks personally though, which would be the best deal etc. Just do some research if you want to replace them.

The downside to AAL's is that they may make the ride stiffer. The short AAL's = most uncomfortable. Many people run the long AAL's and like them.
Upside to AAL's = lift and increased load carrying capacity.

Also have heard that extended shackles will exert more force on the stock springs and will make them wear faster, so it'd be better to do AAL and then extended shackles.

As far as money goes, I dunno which would cost more/be more difficult to install Depends on if you are doing it yourself or not. The shackle bushings may be a PITA though.

33's looked good on my truck on stock suspension, but it definitely looks better with a slight lift ( I have the 2.5" Ironman kit). I think AAL's and/or extended shackles would be a good idea. But if you do this, you will probably end up with a new suspension from OME or the like down the road..

Edit: Found the thread that convinced me to get 33x10.5 on stock springs https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/75881-show-me-some-bfg-33x10-5s-stocker-suspension.html

Bryan, thanks for the pics and description, very useful. I may try just getting the tires first and see how they fit, see if it's sagging too much. Anyone have any thoughts on using the stock springs with the AAL's, no off-roading, just street driving for now?

Don't have any experience how the ride is with AAL's and stock springs. I went straight to the Ironman set up. You could try pming (messaging) someone on this board who has run this set up, stock suspension and AALs, and see what they have to say. Or call MAF and ask them how it would ride.

My friend actually did the AAL first on his land cruiser and I liked it enough to do it on mine too. Got new shackles, AALs, repacked the springs and put the new shackles on. I only put new shocks on the front so far, but it has turned out pretty well. Still need to put my body lift on to stop the rubbing, but for the money you spend its a pretty cheap way to get the car up in the air. Rides nice on and off road too.
