yes they will, but by suck a small margin you may not really notice. Or at least that was my experience.

Yes it is a bolt on job.

Longer shackles will increase ride height, but only by 1/2 the length of the shackle over stock.
In other words, if the shackles you put on are 2” over stock, it will increase the ride height about 1” (give or take - depending on angle, etc).
Also, depending on the height of the shackles, you may incur pinion angle problems (which can be corrected by adding shims between the axle and leaf pack).
Keep in mind, your overall ride will change, and all in all you may not like the effects.

Not only is everything above true, but shackles also come in different flavors. We have Regular H.D. longer shackles, Rubicon shackles, and Cantilever shackles

You can raise it about 2" over stock with 33 inch tires. The only downside is less power on long inclines at highway speed.

longer shackles in the back?

Will putting longer shackles in the back on my 40 cause problems with the pinion angle or anything else? My shackles are 4inches from pin to pin. I was wondering if I could put the Alcan 5.5 inch pin to pin on the back of my 40 to help even the back with the front? Any ideas?

Thanks!

fjatheart,
I don't think you'll have any issues with such a small lift. I'm running Spector "Extreme" shackles on my 62 front and rear and the lift is about the same as you're considering- if not more-with no problems. Remember that your lift will only be half of the difference between the shackle heights, so you're looking at 3/4" of lift.

I would If I had some fabrication tools.

I hear extended shackles will heighten my girlfriend's pleasure, is this true?

I get it - That's a peter-built joke, isn't it? :D

just make them your self man, use 1/4 X 1 3/4 X how long you need it then drill the holes for the pins and install, it will take about 1 hour if all runs smooth.
i am amking some for my truck, 3" longer then stock shackes, making 1.5" of lift for the rear end.
so what are they 6" to center of bolt?

I just took off a shackle and it looks like it won't drop enough for a much bigger shackle. It looks like my shocks must be holding me up. So I guess I have to buy new ones.

I've never seen anyone with this problem.

I had to buy new rear shock when I put my Downey Shackles on. Shackles are very easy to put on.

Height of Shackle

I need to get some tires before winter, the stock ones are shot and also way too small. I want to get 33's but I think that they are going to be a little big without a lift, and a real suspension lift (OME) is out of my budget for the forseeable future, so I think I will settle for a shackle lift. I did some research and I am going to buy the plates, bolts and bushings from Marlin, that appears to be my cheapest method. Question is how much of a lift to I need to comfortable (no rubbing) fit the 33's under the rig? Also, is there any real downfall to doing it this way? I'm not doing any off-roading with this vehicle, only street use (I know that upsets some people ;)). Can I use the stock shock with this setup?

I ran 33x10.5 on my 62 with completely stock suspension for 6 months with no rubbing on or off-road in any circumstance.

Putting on extended shackles without axle shims causes wandering at highway speeds bc of the change in suspension geometry, i.e. the caster measurement. The longer the shackle the more noticeable the change. I don't know how noticeable the change would be with a moderate size shackle like 1.5 inches longer.

A member on this board did a write up on a budget suspension for his truck using add-a-leafs, relocated shock towers, and later extended shackles. https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/97744-budget-suspension.html
