Does the specific sound emanating from the area of the serpentine belt area indicate the cause of the noise? The sound I hear isn’t a squeal or melodic, like you’d think a lose belt would sound, it’s more like heavy bristles being brushed over medal. Aside from the sound emanating from that area specifically, the other reason why I think it’s the serpentine belt is because until a few months ago, my land cruiser sat for 5 years without ever being started- it so dry?

Anyway it’s definitely not that ear piercing shrill high note that a lot of lose belt makes. Any ideas?

My guess is its a pulley or fan bracket bearing that sat motionless for five years until a few months ago

remove the belt and spin the rotating parts individually, and see if any make noise, or drag, and replace that part

This is what you need to do, otherwise you are just guessing..

Have you ever removed your serpentine belt before or do you need some advice?

The goal here is that you'll remove the belt and start the engine with the belt removed. If the noise goes away, you can then move on to spinning / checking those parts for wear. If the noise doesn't go away then you will be moving deeper...

>> Also, before removing get a flashlight in there and just do a quick visual to make sure nothing is rubbing on the belt / anything out of the ordinary
