I’ve been trying to locate a couple rattles for longer than I care to admit. My last round of mallet thumping led to the rear springs. This sounds loose to me but I’m not a mechanic. My LC is on the ground (not a lift) of that matters.

Input appreciated.

It’s on the ground, as in not even on jacks? So the suspension is under load currently? If so, that should not be making a rattle like that. It does seem like the lower pigtail is not seated fully. Try to jack up your suspension and turn your spring until the pigtail end hits the stop in the lower seat. That will ensure that your spring is in the correct position to start diagnosis from there.

That's probably the wrong place to hit. It's like an instrument!

Yes, that’s with full weight on the suspension. I should say I have AHC (if that changes anything). Thanks for the advice.

It does kind of change things, because I have absolutely zero first hand experience with AHC. So I will be of little help moving forward, but there is a significant brain trust here that knows it very well. Good luck!

A few things, can help. Which also have additional benefits to ride feel and globe health.

  • AHC coil replacement, using Toyota AHC coil part numbers. They're, a tad stouter than Lexus AHC coils.
  • 30mm splacer, placed on top of each coil. This increase load on coils, increase tension against upper and lower pockets. Also, reduces rear AHC pressure. Also, a better insulator between coil and upper pocket, then OEM rubber.
  • The lower end of coil, comes with a plastics shield half wrapped around coil. They're and insulator. so we don't have metal to metal contact. These tend to turn and or come off. Clean coils lower receiver pocket, the add marine grease.

Thank you. Is there a way to determine if I have the Toyota v. Lexus springs without removing them?
