I had my serpentine belt break while driving. Lost power steering, etc. Pulled over, and checked belts, and sure enough the serpentine belt had broken. All of the pulleys seemed free except the one that drives the fan. It is stuck. I had it towed to my mechanic, but they won't be able to look at it until tuesday. Anyone have any input on this? Experience? Availability of parts? I'm not even sure what that is called. Fan pulley? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! Pete

Here you go. These are the parts you need.
Serp belts only fail when something else fails, like the fan pulley, belt tensioner, etc. in your case the fan pulley seized, the belt stressed and broke.

If you can do the work yourself you can buy the parts locally and have it back on the road in a few hours.

How many miles on your truck? Just for poops and giggles, I'm taking mental notes of common failure's so as to prevent breakdowns.
So far it seems that this happens right around 200k.

Correct me if I am wrong but the pulley on the fan is connected to your water pump. If that isn't turning then there is a problem with the water pump. If the water pump seized, then that could be the cause of your serpentine belt failing.

On other engines, usually. But on the UZ V8s the water pump is driven by the timing belt. The fan is its own pulley on the front of the engine. Not connected at all.

Sorry for the late reply.
My truck has 316,000 miles. I just had the timing belt and water pump replaced by Uncle T in April of 2016. I'm assuming this part is connected to the water pump. I'm wondering if maybe the water pump has failed as well.
I would also guess that part has a 1 year warranty, and is just past the 1 year mark.

Ooh. thanks for that. I was assuming the Water pump was driven by the fan pulley.

My serpentine belt broke on the freeway yesterday. I’ve been reading and I’m 99% sure it’s my fan bracket.

I’ve been searching for a write up on how to replace the bracket, removing as little as possible. I would rather not drain the radiator if possible. Can I remove the 4 bolts on the fan and fit it our, without removing the shroud?

I've not replaced the fan bracket pulley before but I do know the fan can be removed with those 4 bolts and w/o removing the shroud. But it is a bit of a squeeze. I remember I had to rotate the blade to clear objects in the way.
