Have been looking out west and in the south at GX470s, LX470s and Land Cruiser 100 series and came across this 2015 LX570 for sale here in the midwest. Less than 90k miles with decent, not perfect, service history. What say you rust gurus? Looks like surface in low quantities to me. I plan to get it cleaned up and fluid film applied (unless there's a better option out there these days that I'm not aware of).

Surface rust on the welds. I'm guessing if you look at the hitch receiver and the spare tire pulley mechanism you'll find more. Those fuel tank skids like to rust around the vents as well but that can be replaced with something better + aluminum or stainless.

Looks pretty clean considering Midwest. Wire wheel, paint and fluid film will probably do the job.

If the price is right and everything else checks out then I wouldn't let it dissuade me. Some of the folks from the Southwest may feel differently lol.

P.S. Is it missing a tow hook on the driver's?

Looks fine to me, but I love a bit of rust :P Guys in Arizona would flip a lid!

Might be a couple things to replace (transfer case and transmission protection plates), but it seems ok from the photos. Could be some minor repainting, but I don’t think it was to hide a problem. So I would make a buy decision on factors other than rust.

Thanks, and Good Eye, Hawk! See, that's why we submit to the group. I hadn't seen that. I may have caught it when I go see it tomorrow, but...

That might be an LX thing. I see the tie down but not the tow hook.

I can't imagine the previous owner removed it but maybe?

Not sure whether it's all years but at least 08-15 LX only came with one tow hook in front.

UPDATE: Went to see the truck and decided to pass. Amazing how these stealerships have all adopted this "our price is our price" stance and refuse to negotiate. I politely pointed out that none of the services on an 80k mile truck had been done beyond 45k, and there were 2015s with similar miles from non-rust states that had immaculate service history. Wouldn't budge. Amazing. I'm guessing they overpaid and are now stuck. I did notice that they lowered the price $1k after I left . 2015 Lexus LX 570 for sale in Barrington, IL - CARFAX - https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/JTJHY7AX0F4173662

I then drove over the backup, same year and color, FL car, so no rust. A bit sun faded, no service history since 2020, and a some rougher wear on the interior (a few small holes in leather). Again, unwilling to budge on price despite being overpriced in the market and unwilling to let me take it to Toyota dealership 8 miles away for a PPI because someone took a car to a shop and removed parts.... 2015 Lexus LX 570 for sale in Carol Stream, IL - CARFAX - https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/JTJHY7AX4F4173146

Between dealerships and people in the classifieds who think their 100 series is the last virgin princess in the galaxy, I think I'm going to shell out the $50k it takes to get a 2019/2020 200 series with 90k miles or so from Texas with impeccable service history from Lexus. My 50th bday is the end of September and I'm planning a solo 3-week national park tour in whatever truck I purchase.

You'll love it. If it's on the way SW Colorado is totally worth stopping through.

If you haven't seen one in person try to find a Blue Onyx Pearl to check out.
