So as you guys know I'm shopping for a tow vehicle that seats 7. The 200 tows 8500lbs. looks like the Sequoia tows 7400lbs. Looks like they share the same drivetrain other than the track width. We looked at a 200 yesterday, my wife really liked it! Good sign for me! :) Anyway, I was just thinking what are the major differences between the 200 and Sequoia other than appearance? I have no experience with them at all? I assume the LC would be much nicer inside and have better options?

The sequoia is longer, based on the tundra and built for family hauling. The 200 is on its own platform and built as a "cost is no object" study in durability and functional luxury. The 200 will be smaller inside, have fewer cupholders and probably last longer. However, the engine is the same and I believe the transmission is as well.

The Sequoia also has an independent rear suspension and part time 4 wheel drive transfer case. The Sequoia is a great vehicle- but it was built to make money in the US market. The LC was built to service the most demanding applications worldwide with very few ending up stateside (comparatively)
Sequoias are built here and LCs are built in Japan.

Someone on here did an analysis and was surprised to see how close price of loaded Sequoia was to LC. Though more family room in Sequoia.

thanks guys, I didn't realize they had rear IFS ... this would also be our overlanding rig so not sure how the IFS would effect things.
seem like it would complicate lifting the rig

They do not share the same drivetrain; for example the current Sequoia has the 6 speed and the LC has the 8 speed transmission. Some year Sequoias have part time 4WD, but current year Sequoia have the full time Torsen limited slip center differential. Sequoias are also available in 2WD.

You'll find the towing capacity of the SR5 Sequoia is 7400 lbs in the 2WD version. It's 300 lbs less in the 4WD version. There is more to towing than capacity. Look also at tongue weight capacity, wheel base, and rear suspension. If you need all 7 seats for passengers and hook up a big trailer with a heavy tongue, you may be close to total vehicle capacity for either vehicle too.

If you do the "Build Your Own" on the Sequoia, you'll find they can be fully optioned!

Your best bet is to go to the Toyota sales site and look at the specs for each vehicle yourself, since that's the best source of reliable info on the details you need.

There are other threads on Sequoia in this 200 section and don't forget MUD has an entire section on the Tundra/Sequoia with lots of Sequoia threads.

I've owned both, a 2012 Sequoia Limited and now a 2015 LC, there's really no comparison as long as its in the budget. I purchased both vehicles new and put about 20k on each. I've sold Toyota's with one dealer for the last 21 years. I used to be the typical salesperson that would suggest the Sequoia for it's size and money saved. I bought the Land Cruiser only because someone offered me too much for my Sequoia and I made the money work.

Looking back now I was wrong, the LC is so much more vehicle. The ride is better, the handling is better, the fit and finish is better. It makes you feel good to drive, the Sequoia made me feel like a soccer mom. I'm a car guy and like the idea of the history and exclusivity without being flashy. The only advantage the Sequoia has is people space and storage. Other than that the LC is better in every possible way.

Sequoia is in desperate need of an update as well. Electronics are outdated and 2018's refresh isn't enough.

good stuff, stainless exhaust is definentely a sign of higher quality and build standards!

Had a 2013 Platinum (adjustable shocks and rear airbags) and it was a better vehicle for hauling lots of crap/kids for long distances. Factory handling was also better, but really didn't like how light the steering was. Was much better for towing.

Everything else has the LC as the hands down winner, IMO.
