Juan and Maria,

I think I have your phone number somewhere on here but maybe I can meet up with you. I'm going to try and get off work early and have everything packed so I can just hop in the truck and get up there. Maybe I can meet up with you on the interstate at a said time so we can both roll into the campground at the same time before the gates close.

You can call me at 503.544.7312 if you get this and I have yet to ring you up.

Hey Clint, and Jason Juan and Maria - I hope to be there NLT 5pm Friday, possibly earlier. I'll try and get 2 sites in the campgrounds you mentioned, Clint. If I can't call you, just look for me in those campgrounds.

FRS and CB

Clint, Jason, Juan, and Maria - I will be on FRS channel 5.5 and CB channel 5, if you guys get to the campgrounds Clint mentioned and can't find me, try those frequencies. If you don't have my cell (not sure about coverage up there), it is nueve uno nueve seis uno zero zero zero quattro ocho.

Hey guys unfortunately a few things came up today and we need to stay home for the weekend... :-(
I guess there will be another chance to go up there.

You guys have a safe trip and take a bunch of pictures.

I'm going to be leaving my house around or before 4. It says it is a 5 hour drive so that puts me there at 9 (an hour before close).

I will see if I can get my radio here working and if not I will bring your cell phone number. Looks like it is just me and the 4-runner.

If you don't hear from me by 6 tomorrow afternoon please give me a call on my Cell phone at 503.544.7312. That means I was late and in a hurry to leave or a retard and couldn't decipher your spanish phone number :).

See you who ever is comming tomorrow.

Hi guys, It's Stacy here..I just made a big pot of delicious chili for us all to eat on Saturday night for dinner. Also, I made peanut butter cookies with a Reese's in the middle and chocolate chip cookies..we will have plenty of food for everyone! We're going to get Carly out of school early tomorrow, so looks like we'll be heading out earlier than expected..probably around noon. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Stacy is some of that available for purchase for those of us that can't make the trip? My mouth is watering reading this. I already know you can cook from the HAMOM!!!

Ramon

:)

You bet Ramon..do you want me to bring some by? I'd be happy to, though certainly wouldn't charge you :-) I thought that Juan and Maria were going to make the trip, so I made a bunch of chili...You know how Juan likes to eat :-) Too bad you can't make it..maybe next time.

Stacy

That's a really tempting offer Stacy, but we are going out for Emma's birthday (30th :)) tomorrow night and I'm cooking pig for the State game on Saturday. I will say this, chili actually freezes nicely. I make it every year for my annual "guys" trip to URE (college buds) and I make a huge pot and freeze about 8 quarts. It's nice on one of those nights you don't feel like cooking! Y'all have fun!

Ya...frozen chili. Remind me later to tell you what happened to my first batch of frozen chili when we were at the holy land last year. Your avatar is a clue.

Oooooh no. Say no more, thoughts of "A Christmas Story" come to mind

Well,

I'm the first one back. I had to leave early this morning and missed out on what sounded like a fun trail ride and then a hike to some large falls. But I had a dinner party to get to (that was delayed 3 hours) but ohh well.

I found the place thanks to some GPS but it is one heck of a hike in. My 4-runner was in 2nd going up some of those passes. It was pouring rain and the lights have some illumination to be desired. I couldn't see a thing. But I made it in around 8:30 and everyone was hunkered down in their tents and Joe in his 80.

The wheeling was great. I didn't think I would be able to do it on our very first turn in but I managed ok. Having a 5 speed with IFS and no lockers made my job a lot harder but it also made it a bit more fun. Those mountains are steep and I don't have any good pictures of it. Stacy should be posting up a lot of good pictures though.

The colors are already starting to turn. The next ride is going to be amazing if the weather holds out.

Thanks to Clint, Stacy, and Joe for walking me up some of those obstacles. I couldn't have made it without you.

As I anticipated, looks like a fabulous place and a good ride, glad to hear everyone made it in and out alright. Good to see the 4runner is running well.

Look forward to all the other photos.

We all made it back safely. This morning we were dragging a bit, so we headed over to Crabtree Falls and hiked up (the hike to the top is rough, esp when you're fat and you smoke). But it was worth it, the falls are spectacular - 500+ ft.

Jason, again very glad you made it and that you found us! That alone was a feat!

And again, thanks Clint and Stacey (and Carly and li'l Clint) - despite the rain, it was a great weekend and thanks for leading us. The cookies and chilli were awesome. :)

For those who haven't been riding in this area, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's better than Cullowhee. The scenery isn't quite as dramatic, but at 3200+ ft and when there is no fog, the Blue Ridge Mtns are phenomenal. Whenever there's another ride in this area, I encourage you not to miss it.

That one photo with the water is incredible. Still hoping to meet some of you guys at Cullowhee.

Depends which one you are talking about but the lake picture is the one on the way out this morning when I left at 8am. I imagine in the Summer months that would be a great place to swim.

I agree that it is an excellent ride and if I was around a bit longer and the weather was a bit nicer it would be a phenomial ride with views. For those that like a softer side to the camping you could always bring along a trailer. But the back of an 80 or 4-runner is plenty comfortable, especially in the heavy rain. A pair of underwear and socks for a pillow and a sleeping bag is all you need :D.

Joe, glad you guys made it up and look forward to some pictures. And Ramon would be wise to pick up some of that chili. It was awesome. Made for some good gas at 3 AM as well.:censor:

Guys, I'm up in Richmond,VA and I would love to tag along next time a trip is planned in this area if it's ok... I have a 93 4Runner and a 82 FJ60, both of which are stock. 1.5 to 2 hrs away is a nice distance. Please keep me posted.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi everyone..It's Stacy again..finally got the kiddos in bed and had a chance to view the pics. I'll try posting up several for your viewing pleasure :-) Sorry to those who missed it, we had a great time despite the rainy weather on Friday night and part of Saturday..made the trails all the more fun.

Joe and Jason, it was sure fun hanging out with you! Looking forward to doing it again, soon hopefully!
