Hopefully my vote for Caney fork doesn't end up being the wrong one. I did a quick search and didn't find much information on it but will continue.
My thinking is we will get to do VA again, but we might as well give a bit more time inbetween since we (not me) were recently there and we would do the other one next anyway.
I would love to go to caney fork again, but should we try to hit it in October instead? Or do we not want to mix it up with the Upstate event? I dunno....it was darn cold on that ridge last year. Maybe a bit earlier is better. And this time....let's make it COOK FEST!!!!
I have some serious iron wear that I want to try out. While there is exploration to be had at this location, I'm all about the food and haning out too. Now that we know where the sweet vista is, we can setup and have a big one.
Alright guys, as we approach the month of September we need to keep in mind that Caney Fork might likely be pushed to October due to a more involved and organized ride (North meets South) with Upstate cruisers, one in which should be very enjoyable and in peak season for fall colors.
What we need to do is organize the ride for September, though we have not heard much from Scott lately we need to check with him to see what the option is of a VA Highlands ride. If that doesn't pan out we definitely need to gather the club together to talk organization as people came and went at different times this past weekend and some unforeseen events kept us from our scheduled cookout/meeting, thus keeping us from discussing many of the club issues and future events.
I'll send a PM to Scott now to see what his thoughts may be on September VA ride, in the meantime you all let me know what you think about a second option should VA not work out.
I think I said it in another thread but if we were looking for more of a day trip I wanna check out Gulches ORV park, with the club or otherwise. It's a little bit of a ride to SC but looks like it would be a good time.
Good point about the colors and and the co-op ride. I think we should push it back. I'm all up for VA. Sorry I don't have any other ideas for places.
I SWEAR this time I will be more than a internet 4x4 master. I plan to make it hell or high water in something. Even if it is my wifes jetta.
EDIT: Just make sure it is not the weekend of 20-21. I'm building a Demo Derby car and am driving it at the Cumberland Country fair that weekend. If you are around stop on by and watch me get some whiplash
I would like to suggest going to VA also and prefer 9/26-9/28. Since Juan and Maria, along with my family and I were there back in June, I don't think it is a must that Scott attends. I would like it if he could make it, but I think we can find our way around up there. The trails we hit were forest roads that are marked on topo maps. I can post up directions to the Montebello area (google map it...).
Since we haven't had a dedicated meeting in some time, I would also propose that we go back to the original plan of 2nd Sunday in the month (September 14). We could meet up again in Durham or somewhere else convenient for the majority. Then we can talk club business over dinner and/or drinks. Champps works for me, but I could also be persuaded...
Can I have a volunteer to chair this event (i.e. organize the dates, itenterary, camping sites). It would be good to have someone that has been in the area.
Has anyone heard from scott or been in contact with him recently, he's been MIA and I know some have tried calling him with no response.
I also agree regarding the meetings, and will post up a new thread for that....here shortly.
I am more than happy to organize, but I need to touch base with my boss. Right now I'm in China on business. Give me another day to get her input and then I can say for sure.
Sorry it took a little long to sync up with my family, but I am in and will volunteer to arrange the ride. I will create a new thread to discuss the trip details.
