I will not be able to make this ride, as before make sure to post lots of pics and provide a good write-up.

I have now left two messages with scott with no response.

September Trail Ride 9/26-9/28

Hi Y'all. Sorry for the delay in posting, but let's start planning for this month's ride. We're going back up to the Montebello, VA area on 9/26-9/28.

I would like to suggest camping in the national forest campground at Sherando Lake. The national forest website isn't so good, but here is a link to the campground information.

Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger Districts - Recreation - Camping - Sherando Lake Recreation Area

As far as directions, I would recommend the route we used back in June. We drove North out of Hillsborough on 86, then 29 out of Danville to Amherst, and finally 151 which will get you close to Sherando Lake Campground off the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Google maps says it is a 4 hour drive from Raleigh, but I would plan on 5 if you stop for gas or food.

We can ride the couple of trails that we tried back in June or we can venture out and find new ones. There are a couple of "Jeep" trails listed on the NFS site, plus we can find other trails on a topo map.

If you haven't looked at it here is a link to the last trip up there in June.

Why don't we start with a show of hands who can go...

I've added some directions to the campground and a link to the June trip thread in post #23 above.

I'll be there early Saturday Morning with the 4-runner and be staying as long as I can on Sunday.

Still trying to talk the wife into it and bringing the dogs (rats) and comming along.

Just a recommendation, but since it is a 5 hour drive up, I'd recommend going up on Friday even if late (Juan and Maria will probably be going up late). If you go up Saturday, You'll probably cut your day in half on the trail. We'll probably head back to NC shortly after lunch on Sunday. Just my 2 cents based on the last trip up there.

I will see what I can work out. The wife can never get off early and by the time she got home we wouln't be arriving to the campground until 12 if we were lucky. If it is me though I might just be able to do that. I would hate to have to leave so early on Saturday that I was exhausted that night for the wheeling.

He called me back a week ago or so. He had been out of the state for a few weeks.

We just played phone tag, and he was calling me back about something else entirely. I guess I was just saying he's around, just very hard to get ahold of.

Clint or anyone, any of you planning on going up during the day Friday?

Do we need to make a campground reservation?

Theres still on outside chance, but as it stands right now it looks as though I might not make it.

I'm all over it. However, I'm in the middle of pledging here at school so I have to ask "permission" to go. I'll let you know when the ride gets closer.

haha, nice. I remember those days and the many, many, many reasons i never pledged. Just get to be buddies with all the brothers and they will send their pledges out as DD's to take you to all the parties. it does work. Then you don't have to go through hell week, or pay dues or all that other crap.

Yeah, but to play the devil's advocate, pledging and joining a frat can be a good experience that may include a close network of friends and social opportunities during school that eventually become friends and business contacts for life.

Everyone has a different experience depending upon the school, fraternity, campus life, etc...

It likely blows for you right now but stick with it, you'll likely be glad you did.

* Hijack Off, I hope the ride this weekend is good! *

I know we talked the other night, but for anyone else... I am planning on heading up about 3:30-4:00 from the Triangle. We actually can't make campground reservations in the National Forest, so it is first come first serve. Based on ~4 trucks, if you head up early, it would be great to grab two side-by-side sites in either Meadow Loop CG or River Bend CG.

I will post more info later tonight, but FYI, the campground handout says the gate closes at 10PM (Juan and Maria)...

Note: added Sherando Lake campground map to post #23
