I wish that could have made it to the meet up, but I’m less than two weeks out from back surgery (decompression of L2-L5 and fusion at L4-L5). Doc said that I’m not supposed to be driving until Tuesday. This is surgery #4 on the lumbar spine. The first 3 were very close together and I made the last one last for 40 yrs. Being able to get back in my FZJ80 out on the trails helps keep me motivated to do the maintenance on my body that makes it possible to get out and play. I looks like there was a nice turnout. Hopefully, I will make it to the next one.

I've been putting off L4/L5 & L5/S1 forever, I guess I'll have to do it one of these days... Speedy recovery!

Where is link for November off road trip to College Station area? I can't remember the name of person talking about it.
Thanks, Robert

I would have continued putting it off as well, but I ended up with a huge herniation that caused profound weakness in my left leg. I’m a pain management/medical psychologist. Had it only been pain, I have all sorts of skills that have helped me manage that for decades. This flare up started after I butchered a feral hog that I’d harvested. I planned to ride the flare up out until I went to step over one of our dogs and my left leg folded up like it wasn’t even there. About 10 years ago I fell while hiking and completely tore my quadriceps off my knee cap. When I fell this time, I heard/felt things popping and tearing. The profound weakness told me that something was pressing on a motor nerve and that’s not something you want to wait to address so, reluctantly, I had another surgery. The atrophy in my left leg has been extreme and shockingly rapid. I have a ton of work to do to try to rebuild my quadrs, hams, and calf muscles.

Best wishes, sounds like a long road back

Best wishes, sounds like a long road back
Thank you. I very much appreciate the good wishes.

I was quite the wild child and at at an early age developed a love of extremes, be it speedy/powerful motor vehicles, lifting extreme weights, or engaging in extreme endurance events. Along the way I acquired a lot of injuries and became quite familiar with the recovery/rehad road. Having a wife who is a physical therapist and very supportive of having a garage and a living room that are gyms helps a lot, too.

I made my most recent lumbar surgery last 40 years. If I can do that with this one, I won’t need another until I’m 107. No one who knew me in my younger years would ever predict that I would live that long😂😂😂. I should be good to go for a long time.

Again, I’m glad that I have the next meet up as one of my goals that keeps me doing rehab every day.

To help me get there, I visualize a team of welders tig welding up the fusion the way the dude that welded up the Tigcraft titanium pipe that I had on one of my Aprilias welded it, and a team of OCD electricians rewiring the nerves in my left leg.
