I am getting ready to upgrade my stock 100 series (2003, 155k miles, owned it for 13 years) with a Slee 2.5 and some beefier rubber. Having had a few more modern cars, I really love the second row captains chairs that have become more common on newer vehicles. I was considering digging into pursuing this as a potential conversion... has anyone ever tried this? Would love advice before I start from scratch. I know this has been discussed on here in the past, just haven't seen any successful conversions. Maybe that is my clue...

maybe buy another passenger side 2nd row seat and replace the driver's side section with it to go from a 60/40 to a 40/open space/40 setup.

Great idea!

I think that is the way to start. I know that to replace the 60 seat with another 40 will take some handiwork, in an old thread someone suggested getting a 40 from a RHD model, but I know the underseat mechanics are different. Will start the hunt for another /40% seat in tan leather and let you all know how it goes.

I would be interested in this as well.

The release latches will be on the wrong side though. Is the 40% side on the left for RHD versions? If so, those would be the most convenient to use. Not necessarily the easiest to get though.

I would love to have this but, instead of a cooler, I would make it into a subwoofer/amp box so I could have the room behind my 3rd row back.

Looks right hand side cruisers have 40 seat in right side (source http://www.brian894x4.com/LC100interior.jpg)

I've been wanting to do this for some time. I think cutting down a seat would be the best way to do it. The RHD seat is difficult/costly to source... especially if you want the fabric/leather to match. Plus you have to modify the floor.

Here is a 100 series camper with a nicely fitted Engel fridge...

Cool idea. Would love to have captains seats.

Someone cut the 60 seat, fab a pinch bracket to put on the cut parts of the 60 so then you could easily put the middle back in if needed. Report back, and bring beer. ;)

Hey everyone,

I pick up my 100 series on March 19th and drive it back to Colorado. It is pretty well outfitted with drivetrain mods, and this will be one of the first things I tackle as my rear bench needs to be reupholstered anyways.

My plan is to remove the cushion bottom and back and keep the structure of the bench in place. I plan to then build out a little cubby where my AC/DC converter can sit. It is a good location with the AC coming from the front center console, where I can put mesh or slits on the rear to allow for proper airflow.

I'll try to get a good PDF/Drawing marked up of what I am talking about.

I am struggling with what color leather to reupholster the fronts, second row and door cards with. It is a silver hundy with grey interior. I generally order my leather from Relicate if anyone wants to opine. I would even do a fabric + leather, I tend to like that design as well.
