got the transmission situation taken care of.. ordered a used one from Cruiserparts.net reasonably cheap and with free shipping. Now looking for nice, comfortable, sturdy aftermarket front bucket seats for my 40. Suggestions?

thanks

You can usually buy OEM seats reasonably cheap. Or at least cheaper than non-OEM. In addition, going this route will be less labor intensive than having to mod a frame for your '76.

I just put in buckets into my "71. Total cost was around $150.

You may want to speak with RK. Please see his post in our site Labeled " 40 Parts For Sale"

Why don't you just buy the ones out of the 62 donor truck? Put seat covers on them if they are gonna be with no top on a lot.

thinking more along these lines. . . but not sure best place to order them.

Did you look in like summit and jegs and some of those type places. They all have big racing sections and stuff for the little ricers everyone street races.

yeah they even have one as an office chair. so you feel like you're racin at work!

If you're looking at Corbeau's, check the Pirate 4x4 vendor's section for sales. Carolina Rock Shop is having a Xmas sale on PRP seats, which are similar.

Something to keep in mind... I'm 6', 170, 32-33" waist, 32" inseam. The Baja SS's (which you have pictured) were very snug on my hips, and if I leaned my head back, it would go over the top of the seatback.. NOT good for an accident or roll situation. I sold them and got the Baja ULTRA's.. they are 1" wider, and 4" taller. They also have 2 seatbelt holes in the seat back, which is GREAT, as the baja had my 3" belts constantly chafing my neck because of the centered hole...

Basically, I would either go with the Ultra SS's, or the ultra SS "wide" version, which is another inch or 2 wider and taller still.

There is NO comparison between the plastic/aluminum "race" seats and some of these.. no way would I ever have a non-suspension seat in an off-road rig.

I paid $440 shipped for the pair of my ultra SS's

thank you, im 6'4" - and you dont find that kind of information in magazines~
