Here is what is behind the question.
The holes on the B pillar had no nut behind them originally. Without any reference I welded a 3/8 nut to a plate, fished it up behind and welded it in. Then down the road I got a 3 point seat belt and was saddened by the larger bolt.

At this point I figure that the difference could be drilled out of the nut and retapped with the larger size. Then I think about how I diminished the nut.

Not sure what to do here.

Question....Do you know for sure that the welded in nut on the B pillar is at the right height for you. I remember doing mine and trying different heights to make it fit right across my shoulder. If it isn't then run another nut (right size) up there.

Plug for my modeling career....

Do you plan to use the belts or are they just there to make you feel good?

Look up,

I had info that specifically talked about mounting hardware but I can't find it now. If you plan to use those belts and need me to dig in to all my old files I will or you can just take my word for it that you didn't do enough if you fished a small plate up there with a 3/8"nut welded to it.

Look at these plates and notice the threads are formed in the plate and the area to spot weld them is well away from the threaded section, they should be an alloy plate and those threads will be hard ( think grade 8 nut ) and any welding close to the threads would change the heat treat.

The SFI Foundation is going to be the best place for you to get information on retrofitting safety belts, if you plan to buckle up loved ones and want to trust you did the job correctly don't take the word of any of us armchair internet keyboard Aholes. The information you need is out there if you spend some time looking for it.
FYI: if I remember correctly the inner panel on the B pillar is pretty thin and would probably need a fairly large doubler plate to spread that load out but again all that info is out there on minimum material thickness for mounting locations and I'm not here to make any recommendations.
