Sea foam in the crank case?

I agree but ATF is known to have a lot of cleaning agent so it's an old mechanic trick. I am not really sure what is in seafoam and how it can be added to vacuum, crank case AND gas tank. If simple solvent is needed then why not use paint thinner and stuff?

... I am not really sure what is in seafoam...

It is; light oil, naphtha (a solvent) and alcohol.

... and how it can be added to vacuum, crank case AND gas tank. ...

Can pour it on the roof too!

Old school motors made a lot of junk, sometimes would stick lifters, etc. The 1FZ makes very little mess, doesn't have hydraulic lifters, etc, so what exact problem are these magic mixes suppose to fix? Automotive fluid manufactures go to great lengths to make the best blends possible, none of these ingredients are secret, or expensive, or magic, if the fluid manufactures thought they would be beneficial wouldn't they spill some into the mix? All of the ingredients are cheap, look at the price of a can of this "magic", about the only good it is doing is putting $$$ in someones pocket!:hillbilly:

This motor didn't get great care, in the Mud context more like horrible neglect and has ~275K miles, so what needs to be "cleaned up"?

I really doubt anyone that stupid would live long enough to get a license, so I have doubts about how damaging this could be. Can you post a link to the story you referenced where someone flushed their motor with a garden hose? That is a must read.
I think Sea Foam is basically a solvent and most any engine flush would produce similar results.

I don't think it's nice to just poke fun at people or to lord it over others. A lot of people don't understand how automobiles work, and they come to places like this to learn. You think I'm kidding about the poor kid who flushed water in the crankcase?

The guy in post #33 gives him snarky, stupid "advice", and he follows it.

He then asks for more help, and just gets ridiculed for being stupid and a moron, etc. I'm actually surprised that he responds in the second thread politely. I think most of the people were horrible and nasty.

You know, I've been impressed with IH8Mud thus far - most members are helpful, polite, and knowledgeable.

I for one would like to enjoy humor without belittling others or just being nasty.

For the OP, I suggest that you take a high detergent motor oil... I personally would use Mobil 1 High Mileage 10-40, and change it at 3000 mile intervals (along with filter change) for 9000 miles. That oil has a lot of detergents, seal conditioners, and is designed to help clear out high mileage engines.

Only downside is that even at Walmart it runs about $18-25 for 5 quart jug. However, it has a great additive pack and is of-course super-safe for use in your rig.

I have personally stopped using SeaFoam except to help clear injectors by putting it in the fuel. It seems to work well for that. I have also run the car on only SeaFoam (i.e. as an injector flush). It does a great job clearing up injectors.

If my attempt at humor didn't entertain you, then I apologize? I would think that a comment about cold turkey for a smoking engine was laying it on just thick enough for anyone to tell I was joking.

The best advice has already been given and if he wants to run the seafoam, he's going to. I personally don't see the benefit of additives like that, but if someone feels a difference on the butt-dyno, then that works for them.

Hi there - no worries. I actually found your post entertaining.

However, I also know that some newbies, when hearing about "High Detergent" gasolines and "High Detergent" oils will take what you jokingly mentioned seriously, and drop laundry detergent into the crankcase... I wouldn't have thought it possible until I read the thread on the Mustang Forum that I linked to.

I realize that having grown up around automobiles and having attended a vocational high school with an automotive class, I take a lot of stuff for granted. Perhaps a lot of us do.

At any rate, thanks for listening to my concerns.

I'm on the fence on seafoam in the intake, heard about steam cleaning the cylinders with this, and tried it several years ago per another threads instructions. (Search sea foam...) Right after, started getting codes for o2 sensors. THEN, read that this was not uncommon... Had to replace the sensors.

This is not snarky, but I read those threads and everyone on the sight new the poster was BSing the forum. This is a quote from the concusion of the second post-

"Well to everyone thats sending me messages, the jokes on you for actually believing this and still talking about it over a year later. Was just a big joke started by OneFastEclipes just to see peoples reactions, and apparently its reached just about every car forum around so guess its safe to say we won. I dont own a mustang nor have ever owned one, so no i dont have a cobra to sell you.

The account almost got banned for him having two accounts on same ip but he gave them some story about why and they let him go."

Lighten up already, because I can't stop being sarcastic:cheers:

Hmm. The quote shown above was from a DIFFERENT user name, not from the original poster. Therefore the quote itself may be a hoax.

You seem like a good person, but you also seem really gullible:moon:
