Hello, got my 2006lx with 97k miles apart trying to figure out a scraping grating noise that only occurs on hard left turns and seems to be coming from passenger front wheel. Things done previously are replace pads with all new Lexus shims and hardware. Pry back rusty dust shield to insure not rubbing. Repack bearings making sure preload is good, no play in bearings at all. After repack the noise got slightly worse and since I had used a tighter tolerance snap ring I decided to look at brass bushing. It has some kind of elliptical pattern groove cut into it. Could this be source of noise? Why only on left turns? How do I fix this? Thanks!

Ok great. Any thoughts on the scraping noise that only happens in left turns? Could a cv joint going bad do that?

At 97k OEM CV's should be fine, unless the boots ripped a long time ago and all the grease is long gone. But you'd see all the dried grease flung out everywhere.

Thanks for the reply’s. This noise really has me stumped

I’m starting to put this back together, any other thoughts on what to check while hub is off?

Check all brake components are staying clear of the rotor (clips not on wrong, caliper mounted up correctly, etc.) I once worked on a truck that had a frozen piston, but the brakes weren't dragging. The only indication was a scraping noise around moderately hard cornering in one direction. The pads weren't releasing quite enough, and the tiny deflection of the rotor when the wheel was under lateral load caused it to make a weird scraping noise.

Also check your emergency brake components. I had this happen on my 06’ a few years ago and it was damaged e-brake components.

I really appreciate the responses.! I will check out the hardware on the back. I did all new Lexus pads and hardware on the fronts trying to solve this. The parking brake cable broke a while back when I was trying to adjust it. I hadn’t really thought about checking the rear hardware as I thought since it only made noise turning that it had to be the front.

Ebrake, is it when you turn left and the weight/momentum shifts to right. That’s what I had and it was the ebrake components rusted and seized

Problem solved. Lower inner dust shield on passenger rear tire was rubbing in turns. You can only see this once rear rotor is removed. You can see the shiny parts on bottom where it was making contact. Some gentle persuasion with the brass drift and all is good. Thanks for all the help!

Glad you figured it out! And no $$$ spent!
