Scout II PS vs. 77-79 F150 ps?

IIRC the ferd box swings to the rear.

They are not both sag boxes.

Fords PS systems have always brought the suck.
 
Hi All:

A buddy parted-out a FJ250 and it had a "Saginaw"-type PS gearbox with a rear-facing pitman arm. Seems pretty beefy, but I'm sure the bolt pattern was different than the standard GM/Chevy pattern we are used to.

Needless to say, IIRC this F250 PS 'gearbox is an inside the frame rail type, while the I-H Scout II Saginaw 'box is an outside of the frame rail type.

Which one is better? Hard to say.

Another buddy of mine has the Scout-Saginaw type PS on his VJ40 and I'm very impressed in how it has worked for him. Meanwhile, I run a "classic" Saginaw PS conversion on my FJ40 and can't complain about the performance.

Both of these boxes are the exact same configuration, outside the frame rail with forward facing pitman arms. Both use three bolts to attach to the frame.
 
Ive seen way more ford boxes puking fluid than all the saggy boxxes I have ever seen.

Ford boxes eat seals and lower bearings. They seem to let go of half the sector shaft alot too.

Scout boxes have never gave me a problem other than the WAY long arm.

Beware there are two input shaft sizes on the scout box, one common and one thats a PITA to get a joint for .

Keep it toyota and get a fj80 box.:cheers:
 
I'm already running a later Scout II box on my 40. I made a flange to bolt a modified mini truck sector shaft to. I've decided to just tap the box during a rebuild for a ram assist and forgo the full hydro. I now have a hyster 6 3/8" stroke cylinder available...which I figured out how to adapt heavy wall tubing tie rods to the inner hyster heims. Anybody interested?
