So would they rather have us use cans that spill gas onto the trails?

I think they'd rather not jump through what I'm sure is an ungodly number of hoops to be gov. certified. They'll still sell to their largest customer though, the US Military.

I'm a lucky one from CA who can't buy the Scepter Gas cans. Does anyone have a source that will sell them to us in cali? Can't I just use the "water" can to hold gas?

I wish I didn't know that CA residents can't buy them or I would tell you that I ordered mine from Action Gear.

Bought 2 from SOR about 3 months ago, and they shipped them to my house (still in Cali). They are pricey, though.

Well it looks like I missed the boat on this one...

What's a "CARB" Can?
CARB stands for California Air Resources Board. They established regulations for environmental requirements of Portable Fuel Containers and Spill-Proof spouts in California. Many states have adopted these requirements. The U.S. EPA will adopt similar national requirements in January 2009. A CARB Compliant canister must have the following features to meet these requirements:• An autostop, self venting nozzle that stops the flow of fuel when the target tank reaches full.
• A single opening for filling & pouring. No separate vents or openings.
• A treated can body for very low permeation.
• Automatic closure. Nozzle automatically springs to the closed position when not pouring.
