Mine does runs and runs pretty damn good! Drove it yesterday.

Joe..... Looks great. That ESC should handle lipo as well i believe. Might be a good time to switch with the tear down for the motor. THE biggest single upgrade in my book. more power less size.

Thanks Jason. The ESC supports 2S, I got a couple of $10 brushed motors coming just to get a feel for what level of torque & speed I'd like before investing in quality components and switching over.

I'd really like to get more run time from a pack. I'm using 4200mah packs, I understand the higher turn motors will help. I'm getting 60-90 mins in pure rocks, no trai; it is a bit cold out which likely affects it tool. What do you recommend to get longer run time? Lipo + ? + ? Ideally I'd like to get 120 mins on a single pack in rocks, if that's even possible.

Not sure if I have any good pointers there. Ive gone the other way.
Lighter, more punch and more capable at the expense of longevity.

Im using 1300, 1000, and 850 mah lipos and only get 20-30 min max run time.
Watch the "C" rating on the lipos. It is a measure of how fast it can dump its juice.
So a 1000 mah 20 c will last longer than a 40 c. 40 c has more puch though.

Im not sure if you get any more time out of lipo. Id say no. Just same juice in less weight.
that being said I goofed and ordered a monster $65 4500 lipo that wont even fit in anything I got.
Id sell it for a good price if you were looking to stay with Large MaH and still go lipo.

Well phrogg may have my dream job, and maybe cruiser too But now i finally get a lil seat time as well. LHS is a dangerous place to stop on the way home from work.

1:100 scale V-22 osprey. :D

Ospreys have 2 rotors that tilt just so you know. And Alex gives rides in Pedro. U just need to sink a boat or cause a bad wreck and u get a ride.

Dang Jason, not enough toys?;)

Anyway, I found a good local hobby shop (Hobbytown next to Tyler's Taproom in Apex - convenient!) and have come to find out that for my goals, I'm doing good on battery life. Those guys are very down-to-earth and helpful, and really know electronics.

I did receive my cheapie motors today and installed the 35T to try it out - wow what a difference! I did 45 mins in the Crucible of the Succubus (aka: the rockpile near our neighborhood pool), then about 15 mins of trails, then another 15-20 mins in the rocks and the battery showed no signs of tapering off. So that's well over an hour of solid, hard work. I am happy. I'll try the 45T maybe next week, after I get this 35T broken in.

I also have new rear springs - went with the softest I could find since there's no weight out back.

The best mod is the carbon fiber Susana and I did - +20 in lbs torque and 12 hp improvement!:p

Picked up a scx10 trail honcho on Craig's. let the fun begin.

Dude if you ever want to get together, say the word! It's a blast! I found a wicked trail here in our neighborhood. :)

I've modified mine some more: RC4WD Irok X2SS on beadlocks; modified the driveshafts; battery/electronics plate for better weight distribution; and new softer lower springs all around. The Honcho is incredibly stable and capable now, and the tires (while not broken in fully) are just crazy.

croc hunter plus scx10

Lots of work to do but at least a start.

My front springs are worn out. The body sits level if I hold up the front suspension. Also, I need to trim the front fenders.

Anyone familiar with what heavy springs I need to use and where to get them?

Crickey mate..... that bout looks like a 70 series tray back!

sweet ride Andrew. Your front shock issue could just be that they are out of oil perhaps. Might check that first. they will be floppy and sink like that if you say pop a shock apart on a moment of excessive throttle :D Mine are up for rebuild after a gap jump gone wrong.

I have several springs you could have but Im pretty sure the scx10 springs are shorter than the ax10
I actually went for the softest springs I could find (losi golds) on a much heavier rig. But grab some 30 or 50w oil and rebuild and bleed what you got first to see if it improves.

I think some folks use mineral oil for the home substitute, not sure on its wt or characteristics.

This is the smaller radio shack 70. I purchased before knowing about the discovery communications model 70 series that is much larger. Will keep an eye out on ebay.

Thanks for the shock info. I have been jumping everything. ;<)

My girls love driving the scx10 and they both are very patient and actually drive and not floor it at every obstacle.

Axial has springs from very soft to very firm - seems the very firm ones might be up your alley. You can also adjust preload. And do as Jason said - the stock Axial shocks always leak.

Hangar 18 in Cary and ToyTown in Fuquay have springs in stock, not sure about other local shops.

Thank you. Added the springs from the croc hunter and it is holding up.

Need to work on the body fit some more but getting close.

Don't have a crawler but just ordered my first quad copter and a bunch of extra batteries and a charger so I can get some real flight time. Used to build my own boats when I was a kid and miss it. Not to mention much cheaper than all of my other hobbies. Hopeing to get into some aerial videography. These are some pretty sweet toys on here though. I may have to buy myself a kit to give me something to do with the time I NEVER have off :) Not to mention impossible to get back. Maybe X-mas.

Do you guys prefer electric or gas cars/trucks?

I have both gas and electric and both have their fun perks. I use the gas ones out on the drop zone as it is about the best place to open them wide up. Then the electric is good for just slow rock crawling type stuff. You can do that about anywhere.

Dragging this back up!

Getting closer to being good to go with my AX10. All I need now is a recommendation on a good radio to use, so give me your thoughts!!

When I bought it from Jason:

Got steering, aluminum knuckles and some high clearance lower links this past week, so now she's a full roller. Only needs electronics to get her going!!

First step was to put in some one tons, right?

First step was to put in some one tons, right?

Yeah. Couldn't afford the rockwells this time around unfortunately

After doing some reading, it looks like the Spektrum DX3C will fit the bill. Programmable, 3 channel that supports rear wheel steer, etc. Price at $100 isn't bad either. Should I pony up for a 4 channel radio (to support lights) or is it really not worth it??

I do have this ESC and these two batteries that should do the trick, but I do need a charger for these LiPo batteries. What kind of charger do I look for?
