Those look fun. Always wondered, how fun are the super fast ones? Do you just do crazy straight speed runs or run them around a track? I always thought having a scale car that would go 60mph would be awesome, but I never knew what I'd do with it.

I had a Traxxas E-Revo Brushless that did 60-70mph on 6S lipo and it was a blast. Yes it goes fast in a straight line, but similar to a real car, you don't go full speed into turns...well you can but it'll flip over...Having the instant torque and power of the faster electric trucks makes for a ton of fun when bashing around.

I ran mine around my neighborhood through the ditches and on lots where houses were being built. I also would take it to empty parks and other areas which was fun.

Keep in mind however that I found there to be a direct correlation between the speed/power of the truck and the amount of broken parts...

I've been considering picking up another to toy around with but that is still TBD.

I was into RC cars back in the 80s. There were organized races all over the place both inside and out with established tracks. Most raced the Associated RC10. I got into custom painting the car bodies and selling them to offset the constant costs of racing, that led into an RC helicopter company.

Indoor racing on carpet was a blast and the wildest was racing on a wood floor at an old roller rink, drifting before drifting was cool. There were at least 6 outdoor tracks within a couple hours of us that would field up to 100 entrants at times. The bigger events even had concourse competition before the races.

I even tried my hand at gas RC cars, 1/8 scale, they flew. Raced on asphalt, the one I raced was a buddy's, 2 wheel drive down the straight, start into a turn an one way bearings caught and the front wheels also drove for AWD through the turns. They were on rails. Between fuel, tires and parts it was easy to eat up a couple hundred in a weekend of racing. I got into helicopters, cheaper than racing :)

I must have been really sheltered growing up - didn't know these things were a thing until the last few years when I saw y'all with yours. But I DID have the remnants of an old 60's Erector Set that had passed through the hands of countless other kids over the years. And a Spirograph. I really gotta get another one of those things.

I tried helicopters, just the orientation swap killed me. I was good going away, but any other direction and my brain couldn't process it. It's kind of odd that I can run a car and keep left, left and right, right regardless of orientation but in the air I go brain dead.

And I agree on the torque of the motors. I have a yetiXL that on dual 3s will put itself on its lid from a dead stop if I punch it. And it is fun, but I feel like from a control stand point a step down to 2s might be more fun. Course maybe I just need to learn to drive...

The fast ones are fun on the track.

ive got an old rc10t3 truck in the garage. needs some front end parts, and its nicad, so it would need a brushless conversion, esc, batteries, etc....may be cheaper and easier for me to either block this thread, or just get a scale truck lol

So any suggestions on entry level one you can modify / build?

Sorry I didn’t read the whole thread!

2nd @jfz80 the scx10 is a good chassis for all levels. Good place to start and heep level aftermarket support. Look at the RTR sets, pick up one and a battery and you will be ready to roll right out of the box.

Traxxas offerings are also very good. The TRX-4 is a great truck. They come with e-lockers, portals and hi/low t-case right out of the box.

So when I get a form of income I might consider doing this:

Grab this thing:

And paint/modify/add bumpers/etc to match Biscuit:

That would be cool.
