SBF AOD Conversion

I spoke with Vic directly about this, Basicaly you would need to do a AOD/D300 adapter with a round six to LC tcase adapter.

And it would add at least 8" to the conversion probably a lot more.

And a custom output shaft or custom spud shaft to the mix and the adapters alone could hit 1K easily.

Personaly, if I was really intent to do this, I would look into a centered rear axle (mini would work) and a D300.

Probably gonna be the shortest way and the most cost effective.

Or, do a C4.C6 instead.

This is why I have a 302/C6/203/LC split tcase in my 60. The adapters out there were more expensive than a crawler box..

SBF's are the only way to fly!

From all the reading I have done here Mace and I are about the only ones putting SBF's in cruisers. His is in a 60 mine is in a 40. I did mine just to be different and I like Ford. I have paid the price for taking the road less traveled though. Much of the info here applies to chevy conversions but can be adapted to bule oval installs. My biggest hurddle so far has been wiring.

Lose the auto tranny and go with an SM 465 (only tranny with a lower 1st gear is the SM 420). Adapter is just over $500.00 for a TLC 3 speed t-case. Wild Horses will sell you a new 50oz flywheel for an 11 inch clutch for what I paid to have one reballanced ($149.00 on their web site www.wildhorses4x4.com). You can use the stock TLC hydralic clutch but you will have to make a bracket for the slave cylinder.

The advantage with the 302 is the wiring. Henry's boys did us a favor by making a modular style engine harness. There are several companies that sell ECC IV harnesses that will plug and play.

Cammy is right, getting a Bellhousing to go from a Ferd motor to a Chevy tranny is simple.

If you plan a manual..

Not too many people use ferd autos because they shift on the wrong side

Anyone know the measurements for the I6/ 4speed trans and bellhousing. I measured as best i could and counting the motor(no accessories), the bellhousing and the trans i got 48" give or take a couple.

I have a 73 Fj40 and bought it with the 302 Ford and C4 tranny but looking into changing to aod I found one they are longer but not by much 3-4 inches did you ever find the adapter to the fj transfer case? If you did can you share the info where you got it and part number if possible thanks

Yes I do but I jst started a different route jst bought a 94 1fzfe motor with the transmission and transfer case I sold the motor and c4 today kept the transfer case and the adapter
