Laura (the wife) and I decided to go snowshoeing up at Gooseberry Springs, Mt Taylor (see google map with route, stupid photos, and a short movie).
We sort of messed up and took the southern FR 193 loop in. We were not too sure if we could make it in on the shorter northern route. After 13.4 miles from Hwy 547, we made it to the trailhead. About 3/4 the way in we had to airdown. We arrived at the trailhead two hours later than planned (late start, unexpected lunch in Grants, longer route to trailhead, etc). A little short on time, we never went snowshoeing. Which was a bummer because we really wanted/needed the exercise. On the way out, Laura practiced here skills driving in the snow. Hence the movie on youtube (see above link).
Perhaps we can make the northern FR 193 to southern FR 193 loop a snow run. Or even continue east on forest service roads that drop out at Cubero.
