The new addition to the family. The middle one is going back to its owner.

It needs a little brake work but if fine there. The biggest and most important thing that the new rig needs is to diagnose and find a cure for the "DEATH WOBBLE". It never once did it on my 15 minute test drive. But on the way home it happened 5 times and I thought it was the end of my life it was so violent. Seems to happen on rutted or uneven highly cambered roads. When you are going 60 MPH and it starts to happen it scares the s*** out of you.

On good news I got 16.5 MPG on the way home with 5" lift, 315 tires, 4.88 gears, and a supercharger. When you are only going 60MPH it does pretty darn well.

It is in REALLY ROUGH shape though. I understand wheeling a vehicle hard but you can still have fun and not go to crazy and at least try to maintain the vehicle. But I see their side of the coin as well. Lots of work. Hope to fix the Death wobble in time for Uwharrie next weekend.

Death wobble ehh? Sounds like what I get from time to time on the 62... the damn thing shakes so violently that I have to let off, let it stop shaking, then get back into the throttle. Front end feels like it has the back-and-forth shimmies. That may be why there are stains on the seats from the previous owners. No wonder they unloaded it on me for the awesome price they did (kidding, I love the "wagon" as my insurance calls it). What's the fix for this on the 62 (if I'm describing the same problem)? I'm assuming I've got some front suspension work coming up ASAP. Great looking ride you picked up! Congrats!! My supercharged 396ci LPE GrandSport Vette got good mileage too... interstate I could cruise at 80-90 and get 35-45mpg for miles. Those superchargers don't hurt gas mileage and seem to help it if you aren't too heavy on the throttle. My supercharged mr2 gets 32mpg with "normal" driving... but of course I can't seem to drive like a sane person in that car so I get more like 28-25 depending.

wait, so you technically own 5 LC's now, you bastid :grinpimp:

Well Technically I own 3. I sold the 62 last weekend to a freind and that one we picked up late that night (middle one) is going back to its owner. Long test drive. And more bad news on the 43 tonight. I have to find someone in the next week or two to transfer the title work to in order to get it here and then ship it. Might work out might not. Someone offered me 5K for it down there so I might just take it as I am so tired of messing with that thing...maybe pick up a 45 :) haha or more than likely finish my 56 or fix all the problems on the two I got.

I've got a pretty good list going on this new one.

#1: Death Wobble (Jam nut on track bar was lose 1/8th turn and the bushings I can move but very slightly. I have a feeling that a heavy truck at 60MPH has a lot more force than me. Could be it from the reading.
#2: Power Steering Pump rebuild (leaks A LOT)
#3: Rear Brakes
#4: New windshield
#5: Front Axle rebuild
#6: AC
#7: Body work and Durabak the whole thing
#8: Storage system
#9: Mud Tires

Damn Jason,
It sounds like a daytime soap opera. How the hell did you end up with 3 80s? anyways, I am home for at least 2 weeks before sage so if you want to get together let me know.

DEL

Haha, Yeah I know it has been a Soap Opera. I mean not really we just had a round about way of getting the couple rigs that we were looking for. We just had a really long test drive of one of them. Deeds ended up with a clean DD that we can take off road if need be I ended up with something we don't care if it rolls over or gets completely covered in mud.

Yeah Del, to bad we don't really have any places here to go and I don't want to drive far like Uwharrie until I get this Death Wobble fixed.

Me too,but I think I'm years away from that position. You are on a good start though with that garage full.

Now I am contemplating getting an 80. I should have just rode in my 40. The comfort level is very noticable in that thing.

Maybe I should put the 40 up for sale and see if someone will take it. After riding with you today that sounds more and more like a great idea.

I don't HAVE to take that one back to Charlotte :D

Yes it is very comfortable and capable. If it wasn't for those darn dogs I would love to go back and get a pic in that Beaver Pond. I sure appreciate the height and capability. I never would have dove into that thing in my old 4-runner. Mainly becuase the water would have come thru my doors and steering linkage area.

I realized with the 62 that Automatics are to easy and the coil spring I rode in with Al at Uwharrie made life very comforatble for all involved in the experience. Almost makes it to easy some times. But you would be able to cram your whole family in there and maybe get the wife to come on out.

Man I can't believe that you bought Colters rig for that price. Last time I talked to him it was going for way more than he advertised it for in that thread. That thing is almost as complete as you can get an 80 without going 3 link or something.

I agree. He was in a pretty rough spot and it had to go. He was "mostly" honest about everything in it. Even though it wouldn't have stopped me from buying it the Death Wobble is HORRIBLE and I would have appreciated knowing about it. Weird thing is it never happend in the test drive and I have had it happen about 7 times already. Del experienced a very mild version of it this morning.

I know when I asked about it months and months ago it got a bad rap from a lot of people that knew the old Jason that owened it but it fit the bill perfectly. With what a lot of them said though he just TRASHED the thing. Wheeling hard is fun but there comes a point when taking care of things makes it easier on you. Like keeping the engine comparment clean helps you determine if something starts leaking, or contaminating parts when you put in new things like filters, gaskets, electrical components, filters, plugs, etc. Not smoking in your car just is a pleasentry. Keeping the interior clean helps you find leaks. I think I have a leak somewhere (I know from reading threads from 4 years ago and the water that was on the carpet and the musty mold smell). Just not sure where it is yet. Simple things like washing the windows and putting a treatment on them helps keep mud and water from sticking and with visibility and foggying up. Its the little things like that actually save you time in the long run.

Overall I am VERY impressed though. What can you really expect from a hard wheeled rig. It felt very at home in what was probably 3 feet of water that had built up on a trail from a Rogue beaver that felt like expanding his teritory. Nice going into something like that and not even thinking twice about "what if".

I wheel the snot out of my 40 , but if i pop the hood you can tell it is well taken care of. I have had it for almost 20 years now and plan to keep it atleast 20 more if i can. Granted here after i get the Hooptie done it will be going back down and probably getting rebuilt at that time.
