IIRC, it was

1- 3 little pigs
2- Team Yopo
3 - me
4 - Ross Woody's team
5 - the dude who made the thai stuff way too hot for the judges
:D

It was a good time. :)

Sand Chef was a lot of fun. Of the seven teams that signed up for the competition, only one was not able to make it to the sand. All six teams that participated demonstrated an impressive array of culinary abilities. Peppers were the secret ingredient. All teams managed to create very original dishes, from very spicy ones to sweet tooth delights.
Judges had a very hard time making their decision. 90 minutes is the time allowed for the teams to cook. But the judges are pressed to test and determine how many points each one of the total of 15 dishes gets on each category.

Before I give let you know who won, I'd like to thank all those who participated. A big thanks to each team member and to each judge. To Desertdude and Snook for taking care of the audiovisuals. A huge thanks to PismoJim, without Surf & Turf there would be no Sand Chef.

The winners are:

3rd Member: 216 points
PMC: 232 points
Team Johnson: 242 points
Yopo 4x4: 244 points
3 Little Pigs: 264 Points

Next year I promise that I'll have a point breakdown of each team per dish. I wanted to do this year, but somehow the score cards were thrown in the fire.
Sorry about that. It won't happen again.

Regards

Alvaro

Thanks for the priveledge Alvaro!
And to the teams, great job! I know how hard it is cooking, but I gotta say; Judging this year was even harder.

Can't wait for next year!

Snailwagon, bring a porter, or stout. Thanks for getting my the liquid before I melted.
3DAYS.webp

I did find that *not* being a judge was a much better way to go, actually. We just hung around Robbie and fought for the scraps he left after his tasting. Had more tasting of the good stuff than he did since he was being thoughtfully conservative... :D

Fun stuff. We were a little too liberal with the main ingredient I hear. Porter was available the next day.

My favorite part was when I asked my buddy to do the desert, which was a no-bake cheesecake (no-bakes just use gelatin as opposed to eggs). To get gelatin to set, it needs to be heated and brought into solution. Three minutes into the competition I look over to see an unmixed bowl of cream cheese, milk, sugar, and vanilla all sprinkled with gelatin dust. Then he asked me how we are going to get it into the shells. That went in the trash.

The concept was good, execution was poor for us. We did:

Filet de birria. Supposed to be medallions covered in a birria sauce. Pasillas were way too freakin warm in the sauce.

Pad Prik King, pork with string beans. Pork was not cut correctly, but yes, this dish was intended to be that hot.

Cheescake with jalepeno-stolichanya jelly.

As a judge I'd like to say:

A big thanks to Ron (For suggesting me) and Alvaro, for giving me the job, even though I had to agree to do something for him, that he wouldn't tell me about till I agreed.... Best decision I made all week!

I don't know about the other judges, but I had a 3 way tie for first place on my score card, killer food all around!!!

And Eric! You were moochin' off of Robbie? I was sitting next to him! So close, so close. Maybe next year we can both mooch off of the same judge and meet for real...... :D

The only thig I'd change would be labeled plates for the teams, keeping everything straight was hard....

been sayin' it for years... we need (nick)name tags! last year I looked even dorkier than usual with my "e9999" printed on my cap, but it worked... :D

Alvaro-
Thanks for posting the pictures. I didn't get a chance to take any photos of the 3 Little Pigs 'cause I was busy trying to get camp set up and keeping the other 5 Little Pigs in line.

I want to thank everyone especially Jim and Alvaro for putting on a great weekend!!! This was our first Landcruiser event, and actually our first time going to any type of gathering like this. I met a lot of great people and we had an absolute blast all weekend. I think our friends son (Damn Seagulls hat) is an LC convert now. He spent most of the weekend talking about wanting to get his own.
Thanks again all

Drew

great work!
can't wait for '08!
