barber toyota F'ing charged me 695 for "paint protection", and some detail work, a friend of mine that works as a detailer for toyota out there, caught me as soon as i picked my fjc up from detailing... he said that the environmental protection is BS and its just a quick wax for the car. I was also told by the dealer that the key would have to be in the vehicle in order to start it. So why the lojack?

Some dealerships are always BS'ing us, I would for once like to meet a honest car salesman, better yet, an honest financer.

They charged you $695 for "Paint Protection" because YOU LET THEM!!! I would have told them i didnt want it and if they tried to tell me that is was "Required" i would have walked out and went elsewhere!!

NO ONE SHOULD BE FORCED INTO PAYING FOR "UPGRADES", "EXTRAS", OR "MODS" THAT THEY DONT WANT OR NEED!!! IF YOUR DEALER CONVINCES YOU THAT YOU SHOULD AND YOU PAY FOR THEM, ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!!!

SPEND THE TIME TO FIND A DEALER THAT DOESNT CHARGE FOR EXTRA CRAP AND GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!!!

Thats because there are too many guys like sdtoyotaguy who just let them do whatever they want and dont speak up about it.

Is that a joke? :D Car thieves are more advanced then ever now and some even have laptops with special software that plug right into the OBD plug and they can reprogram everything that want to. I saw a show on it the other night actually! Very impressive and scary!

Dude, you need to chill out a bit. Don't you have anything better to due than screw around writing pointed letters like an old lady? Its the reality when you want a vehicle like an FJ in its first couple of months to market that dealers are going to try to make some money on them. Ever own a business????

Besides, Kearny Mesa Toyota is a UAG dealership (Penske) which means they don't mark up vehicles with BS "Market pricing" like 9/10ths of all the other Toyota dealers are doing on the FJ (and Prius).

Get a life, and if you find a FJ for sticker without any dealer add-ons let us all know.

So I guess you work at KMT?

Your dealer SUCKS and I wouldn't service my Toyota's there if you were the only dealer in the county.

Everything that came on mine was from the factory, nothing was added by the dealer, not even mark-up. All the pamphlets for the extra BS, (paint protection, etc.), was in the finance guys office, but he did not even 'offer' any of them to me. Easy in, easy out. Test drive, sign, drive home happy.:D

I got my FJ Cruiser last week exactly as ordered from Cory Ellerbee at San Francisco Toyota.

Also, since you are in southern California, I got my 2004 Toyota Prius exactly as ordered from Dianne Whitmire at Carson Toyota.

Both MSRP, both exactly as ordered, both a tremendous pleasure to work with. I would gladly do business with both Carson Toyota and San Francisco Toyota again and again.

Well, I was considering going over to KMT to order an FJ Cruiser when I ran across this post.

I emailed the guy I was in contact with and this is the reply I got:

I am sorry it took me sometime to answer your question because I have to clarify it to my GSM and unfortunately the GM had a memo that the Lojack and Polyseal be in the car. The positive thing about it is at least they are protection for your car.

i personally feel bad for sdtoyotaguy and salesmen of his persuasion. pity the foo y'no??

i had a guy out in sacramento (folsom or roseville toyota, one fo them dealerships) try to sell me an FJ MSRP of 32k + a 10k dealer addendum. had him thinking i was interested through a series of emails and then got him on the phone and lectured his ass on good business practice and ethics. at the end of all that (i was nice too) he still asked if i was interested. these dudes dont learn and further, dont care.

i bought at longo, flew my ass down from the bay area and drove it back home because i couldnt find what i wanted in the bay area. longo was straight up about the price. if you dont like the way you were treated or encountered some bullshiat - write them letters and email and call. it's your right and more of us should take advantage of our rights.

alright, that's enough about dealers for me.....onto the mod threads!! btw - kickin forum all you lifers and all!!!

Nice job for posting Mobi!

FJCruisersOwnersGroup - agreed about Family. I have my LC and daughters Scion serviced there. Checked out the FJ a few weeks ago and what they had were all configured as you mention.

Buddy of mine who's bought an FJ and likes Family ran to the Yota dealer in RSM because he could get what HE wanted and not what Family wanted to sell him.

Took me 2 1/2 hours to purchase a no haggle Scion at Family and put such a bad taste in my mouth for their sales side of the house that I ripped them a new on on all the follow up's from them directly and from Scion corporate. Typical deal with sales - here's what we've got, buy it. My point - Scion advertises to the younger generation that they can customize the way THEY want the car. Daughter couldn't get the color she wanted because ALL the Xa's in the LA region had a $1100 package on them that she didn't want. So much for truth in advertising - customize all you want so long as it's what we ship from Japan.

Just a note. I bought my Tacoma at El Cajon Toyota in Oct 2000 and they were very professional. Now all my buds are buying over at Bob Baker Toyota from a "hook-up" and they have also been treated like professionals.

KMT sucks though, on all sides (sales, service, and parts).

I have been by El Cajon, they didn't impress me. Richard @ Frank Toyota in National City was great. Looks like I'll probably go back and see him...

Boston- sdtoyota guy is the one who "does whatever he wants" because he is very obviously a salesman (quite possibly from KMT) childishly responding to mobi-arc's letter. sdtoyotaguy/KMT- keep doing business as you are, and people will just go elsewhere. We have other options, and we'll use 'em.

rsrai...that little blue guy cracks me up

KMT pulled the same BS with me, so I promptly left and purchesed FJ from Carlsbad Toyota for sticker price. Didn't have good luck with SD Trux either. Owner adds 10-50% to parts price. I offered to supply parts which I purchased from TX or AZ and he says he cannot warranty work using these parts, even if shipped directly to Trux. Must be lot of money in overcharging on parts.

For parts in san diego, i suggest Mossy Toyota!

Tell them you want the TLCA discount and explain to them what it is.

I usually get at least 20% of on most parts that i need right away and cant wait for CDan, otherwise CDan gets all my biz!

No objection to the "additional dealer markup." Some will pay the premium to be first on their block....I'm not one of them. Decide to fxxx every KMT buyer for paint coating and lojack, no problem; I'll buy elsewhere. What I object to is the 45 minutes wasted on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the shady, sleazy way the non-negotiable dealer add-ons are sprung at the last minute. If KMT has a problem with me buying my future trucks elsewhere, change the policy. If KMT has a problem with me posting my correspondence, don't give me a reason to write a letter in the first place. With respect to writing pointed letters like an old lady, writing a letter to the owner is how civilized educated people express their opinion and as a business owner, if a client has a problem, I appreciate it when they pick up the phone or write a letter and let me know.......so with all due respect.....get fxxxed.

I've been a letter-writer for many years. Yours was VERY well written, and I'd have done the same myself. Toyota (and others) have put the American-guys to shame in recent years by taking the high road with their customers and providing honest service. KMT obviously wants to take the 'oily' route and they are going to pay a price for it - if not in this one sale, then in the long term loyalty they lose from good customers like you by sacrificing good-will. The mechanic is within his rights to chime-in on the subject, but your reply on the matter is as eloquent as they come. Perfect!
