Pretty damn cool.

The Society of Automotive Engineers sets the standard for nearly everything in your car. And now they'll have an international office in Greenville.

Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research announced Tuesday that SAE International will become a campus partner of Clemson-ICAR at its Greenville location.

"I think it speaks to how important this region in South Carolina is in the automotive industry," said Greenville Mayor Knox White. "I don't think we have all quite grasped yet that we have transitioned away from a textile tradition into something else."

The announcement came during the 2005 SAE World Congress in Detroit.

"With its 89,000-strong membership, the SAE is the flagship professional engineering organization for the automotive industry," said Clemson-ICAR Executive Director Bob Geolas. "Its presence on our campus and the partnership we are forging by this proximity send a distinct message to the industry that Clemson-ICAR is serious in its aspirations to be the premier automotive and motorsports research and educational facility in the world."

This year the SAE celebrates 100 years as an organization. The main headquarters is Pennsylvania, and ICAR will be its only other American office.

"It brings instant recognition that I-CAR, and Greenville, and the South is a center of the automotive industry," Michelin's Ralph Hulseman said.

I wonder when they get the wind tunnel finished they will let me use it to see how much air doesn't get by the 40. :flipoff2:

We already have a wind tunnel here in Clemson. Doubt you can stick the 40 in it though.
