New plans, seems I will not be getting the cruiser from that dealer, found another one close by.

Its a one owner 1995 80 with dif locks, I feel a lot better as the answers I was getting from the dealer and lack of pictures plus dead batteries in his camera made me wonder what was up????

Doug and Drew, thanks for your offer to look at the truck.

We made a deal on the phone with the owner of the 95 crusier and will be arriving at the Ontario airport, little south of Roseville.

Be thier next Friday and hope to drive over to Pismo that afternoon.

All by the seat of our pants, first time in 10 years me and the wife have ever gotten away without the kids, should be fun.

I'm a little confused. Are you buying a rig in Roseville (or nearby), because the Ontario airport is in LA, about seven hours away. If in fact you will be in or near Roseville next Friday, we could caravan to Pismo. We'll be leaving just after lunch. Or, I could just be out to lunch! ;p

I think when you're coming from Canada, Ontario is "a little south of Roseville" ;)

Well - Ontario Airport is located about 45 minutes east of Los Angeles / off of interstate 10 freeway.......or are you taking a short hop east to Ontario, Canada.............you can never tell with those crazy "Cannucks", especially since Hockey teams are on strike

eh,

I grew up in Ontario and do not plan on going back after 20 years on the west coast.

Were coming down for the Pismo deal also, can`t wait to put faces to names after all these years of web surfing.

We are super excited about the trip, we arrive early Friday and hope to hook up with the owner of the 80 series later that day when hes off work.

Prolly won`t make it to Pismo that day, might drive part way thier that night or something like that. Not sure what to do, scared s***less to travel in LA coming from Vancouver Island, population almost nothing.

LA traffic isn't that bad. Still haven't made up my mind whether to go up Friday evening or early Sat morning. You need an escort thru LA traffic???

BTW - with a comment like this, pitch your tent away from everyone else - noise from your tent at night will likely keep the rest of us awake. hehehe :flipoff2:

Look forward to meeting lots of you as well.

We will be sleeping in the back of the 80 which I hear is pretty sound proof.

Thanks for the offer Brent, I think we may drive out that eveing and see how far we make it, prolly bunk up at a cheapo motel along the way.

Tinted windows too!

Let any of us in the area know your starting point and we may be able to help with suggested routes to avoid some of the traffice typical for the area. Hope to see you there!

Perhaps we all ought to put a sign on our cruiser windshields with our board names!

ooooh, yea, first night out with the wife and no kids in years in a new to you LC that was perhaps home to a bunch of incontinent dogs... oooooh, yea!
I don't think so! Back up plans are a must here...
:D

We will arrive at the Ontario airport at 7:00PM, not sure if we will do the paperwork thier or at his house ten minutes away.

Anyhow, kinda late is it not to try and make it to Pismo????

What do you think our best plan would be.....

1. Start driving and see were we end up
2. Grab a motel that night in or near the big city?

Rob

Hey Rob,

that is perfect timing! There will be hardly any traffic through LA / Ontario Counties!

Pismo is about 4 hours from the Airport.

You would take the 10 freeway west, transfer to the 210 west then to the 134 west, and then to the 101 west (the 210 / 134 / 101 transfer is all on the same freeway - not difficult at all). There are numerous little motels along the way. If you need to spend the night (since there are no kids ;)) you could stay in Santa Barbara ~ about 2.0 hours from Ontario, or continue up the coast about 45 minutes where the freeway turns inland and stay at Buellton. From Buellton it is about another hour or so to Pismo area as the freeway comes back out to the coast.

Joe

By the time you actually finish the transaction I'd just grab a room in Ontario and get up early Sat morning and drive up. Traffic will be much, much lighter than any Friday evening in the LA area.

Besides, driving up the coast Sat morning will be beautiful, assuming no rain. You'd miss a gorgeous drive at night!

I'd recommend at least driving up to Simi Valley or so Friday night to put you on the west side of downtown LA. I've hit bumper to bumper traffic in and around downtown early Sunday morning that cost us nearly an hour coming back up from San Diego. And that slowdown was not caused by any accidents...

Does this type of thing happen all the time????????

We made a deal witht the owner of the 1995 FZJ 80 as he had not heard back from a prospective buyer for over a week.

The owner emailed him telling the prospective buyer that he was selling the truck to us as we would provide a down payment.

The owner calls us this morning saying he had a lawyer and the prospective buyer sitting on his door step with a cashiers check, the layer suggested he sell the vehicle as they had a verbal aggreement?????

We booked the ticket so I guess we better get a looking, if anyone comes up with a rig around the 10K mark I would appreciate a good lead.

Thanks
Rob

Hey Rob,

Yes this type of "Crap" happens all the time - a persons word is not what it used to be (except for true crusier owners).

It really is not worth a fight, but if he accepted your down payment - then that should be the binding contract. Hopefully you haven't sent them any money.

For the Los Angeles / Ontario area - please check www.recycler.com - might be some cruisers in their listings.

that story sounds fishy to me. Sounds to me like you had a verbal agreement too. Anyways, maybe it's best you didn't try to buy it from him.

If you really must use these tickets now, try the recycler.com indeed, also cars.com, autotrader.com, lots of LCs in the greater LA area.

good luck
E

Having the yahoosian show up with an lawyer is enough reason for me not to sell it to him. Verbal contracts are one thing - a verbal agreement to sell is another. A pox of PHH on him!

Craig's List has a '93 with 105k for $9400 in the LA area and it's Yellow! See:

Round and round we go, looks like we have found another possible cruiser.

The crappy part is its in Tuzson Arizona which is 450 miles away from were we arrive. We will be recieving pictues on Monday of the rig and will know better by the time of the condition.

If it looks good is there anyone near thier that could view the truck for us?????

Next question is anyone heading to Pismo with a passenger that could possibly drive it to Ontario Airport or near thier????

I know its asking a lot to ask, so think twice before offering.

Thanks
Rob
