Amazing amount of info here - thanks to everyone who contributes.

Probably a dumb Q but looking at some RWs for my 200
- what's the difference between PTR45-34120 and PTR45-34070?
- will 34070 fit 2011 LC 200 no problem?

Undecided on tires but probably some BFGs 285/70s...

Appreciate any info.

Thanks!

Dimensionaly and visually they are the same. The older PTR45-34070's do not have the updates that the new ones ( PTR45-34120 ) have. The new ones are an updated design that eliminate the clicking noise many people experience. Something with how the fake ring mounts.

If it were me, I wouldnt put the old design on my 80K truck just to save a few bucks over the new model. Visually no-one will know, but hearing it go click, click, click as you drive through parking lots is embarrassing.

Super helpful - thank you Archtaan.

Is there a cure for the 'clicking' on the older model? Any idea how common this issue is/was?

I've never heard of any complaints about a click...

Clicking? What clicking? I've been running the PTR45-34070's on my 2010 Sequoia and on my 2013 LC and never heard any clicking. Never heard anyone else complain about clicking, either.

My understanding is that the PTR45-34120 wheels have the valve protector rings with drain releif cuts in them so that water does not accumulate behind the rings - the newer rings (PTR45-35110) allow water to drain while the older rings do not. If you want to change your PTR45-34070's into PTR45-34120's, just add the new rings - find them for sale here: One Replacement Trim Ring for 17 TRD Wheel PTR45-35110

Of course, if you have any details about this "clicking problem," I'm always anxious to learn something new ...

My wheels click becuase I have baseball cards attached :grinpimp:

Strange - My RW's don't "click"... original rings w/o relief cuts for drainage.

Guess I got lucky!

It would be helpful if it were true... -But it ain't.

No clicking reports from anyone here who owns them so far...including this owner.

I never new that. The one thing I never liked about the RW is the tires always look dirty.
I've had problems finding the right part number for the TRD centre caps for these 17" RW

Hmmm...

I can't see any difference in the rings in that link you posted. The only cut-out I see is the spot where you access the stem...but that's not unique by year. If there were a gap in the ring near the bead? -I don't think it would help, as it would get clogged unless it was huge...and I see no gap at all. Maybe there's a difference? -But I haven't seen evidence of that yet. Anyway...no biggie. I love my Rock Warriors. ;) They have an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, by the way.

You can see one of the "back side drain slots" on the back of the ring at the 9 o'clock position:

You can read the descriptions about how it is the "new and improved" ring at sites like these:

TRD Beadlock Ring 17 inch diameter for 1 wheel [PTR45-35110] - $99.00 : Pure Auto Parts Online Store - Toyota, Jeep and Diesel Performance Parts Headquarters

Amazon.com: Genuine Toyota PTR45-35110 TRD Lock Ring: Automotive

So ... there is definitely a difference between the old and new rings. I cannot speak to the efficacy of the design, however.

I bought a new set of RW wheels from the dealer about 6 months ago....may have been one of the last sets...
After a wash I do still have some water accumulation at the 6 o'clock position.

Wow. Those grooves seem tiny. I'm thinking the first thick mud to go through...they are gonna clog and stay clogged.

Water isn't really the problem. The problem tends to be thick mud, or solid snow that sticks on the inner, back side of any wheel in clumps, and throws your balance severely off...but that's not unique to any particular wheel.

Here are the wheels/tires combo you mention on my 200 (285/70 on RWs)...

...which I think make for a pretty nice setup. ;)

huh, will have to check which ones I have on my 100 but i have never heard clicking but could be all the noise from the MTs is covering it up.

If they somehow magically all produce clicking? -You'd hear it from all four wheels...and the many folks who run them here would be chiming in to confirm.

I'm pretty OCD when it comes to squeaks and clicks...and these things are silent.

I'm thinking this is a case of attributing a click to the wrong source.
