Rusty Split Rims

Yeah,

That's basically what I did too, except I used a long air chuck. I had the tires leaning the way they are in the photo above with the rings facing away from me and then I filled them up to about 5lbs and checked them. Kept filling, kept checking, but I pretty much knew there was no danger once I saw the bead was set on both the front and back of the tire.

First time jitters, that's all. It's one of those things where until you do it yourself once, you don't know who to believe.

How do they drive? My HJ45 came with 5 split rims. They drove awful, felt like they were out of balance. I couldn't find anyone that could/would balance them. Unfortunately I bought some cheap 15 inch rims until I can get the splits figured out.

I mounted my tires myself and did not balance them.

They run quite smooth, after they have re-rounded themselves, until I hit around 50 mph. Then there is a slight shimmy. I very seldom drive faster than 55 so I can live with it. There is no abnormal wear signs on the tires after a thousand miles.

As for me,

I don't know. I still have to install my new windshiled and get a new muffler and THEN I can finally make it legal to drive!

ZombieResponseUnit,

My rig is finally legal and I can drive it!

I have had it out on the highway now and I was up to 100 km/h and it was not bad. I did not notice any real wiggle until I approached 100, but it was just a bit of vibration. I used the liners and I have not balanced the tires at all.

OK, I took my truck out on the highway for a good drive and had it up over 100kmh (60 mph) and there was no vibration at all. I don't have any weight on the wheels.

Not sure if I am lucky or what the heck happened, but it seems that I don't need to balance these wheels.:bounce:
