rust check: 03 LX 470 (1 Viewer)

hey folks,

need a quick sanity check before i waste any more time.

found an ’03 lx470 near me (quebec).

• 346 500 km
• seller wants 9 500 cad obo
• timing belt/water pump at 307k, new gas tank, exhaust, alt, battery, etc.
• still needs rear brakes + e-brake.

real concern is rust. frame has a few holes in the bottom lip and the rear wheel arch is flaking bad (pics attached). worst i’ve seen on a 100 so far. engine is fine, ahc replaced with old man emu setup.

questions:

1. at what point is frame repair on these just not worth it?
2. what would you realistically pay for a running parts truck in this shape?
3. any tips for checking if there’s enough meat left to weld to before i bring it to a body shop?

appreciate any thoughts. trying to stay objective and not fall for a money pit.

• 425 000 km
• seller asking 9 500 cad
• timing belt at 394k, fresh front brakes, wheel bearings, ahc sensors, battery, ball joints, etc.
• needs a/c fixed and rear locker actuator
• visible rust on frame rails, cross-members and rocker pinch seams (nothing punched through yet but lots of scale)
• ahc still moves through all heights

appreciate any insights—trying to learn before i leap.

Run away from both, especially if you plan to build it!
Find a cleaner one from Vancouver, US or Japan if u have to!

Also, I bought my 03 lx470 in 2018 with about 266,000 km for 11k, and sold it after my North America trip 2 years later because of the rust!

Got myself a rust free 100 from Japan.

thanks for the gut check both, i'll keep hunting. shopping across the border in the states makes me soooo jealous. those southern kept LCs and LXs are so nice.
