Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum, and I had found many really good articles on the topic I was searching for. Thanks for the great work!
I do have 13 LX570 with 70,000 miles. I like to keep my LX570 for a very long time.

Other day I got a warning saying "Check 4-Wheel AHC System" on the dash. Dealer said that front left suspension AHC pipe is leaking
and it may cost up to $20,000. Vehicle is rusting so much that it is not worth fixing it. They said it is very common in New England
area being the salt belt. I was shocked.

I know rusting is an issue with Toyota that there was a recall for Tundra and Tacoma.

I have filed complaint with NHTSA https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#vehicle
Two months ago, I was asked by the dealer to do services necessary that costed $2000 to bring it to Upto date. There was no
indication from the dealer of the rust or any potential issues including past several years. Had I known rusting problems,
there may be many ways to stop or really slow it down. I did wash car underneath almost every week through a car wash company.

I do think that Lexus or Toyota needs to do something just like the way they did with their other trucks through recall.
May be if enough people complain through NHTSA?

Cleverly their warranty does not cover when it involves rust issues.

What do you guys think on how I should proceed?

20K or is that a typo? Did the dealer say 20K for one line? I have a 13 LX and did have one rear line leak and it cost maybe $1800 at the dealer and was covered by my extended warranty.

File a complaint for the dealer quoting 20K...

Dealer quoted me $2400 for the line. But he reiterated that replacing pipe the may not fix the problem and could not guarantee the fix as there could be other related issues somewhere else. Dealer called it mysterious issue. If we look at most of the AHC related parts, they are expensive, and I could see why he quoted that price.

I had reported the strange issue with AHC as it did not go High or Low (some of the times) when the vehicle was in warranty. They denied there was any issue and conveyed me how the AHC works as they did not see any code. But after 18 months warranty was over and now, they say scanned code shows "Abnormal oil pressure in AHC "

Thanks for sharing the information.

Here is another option. I'm looking for a shop who has experience with the LX suspension system in my area and found this site.
Maybe there is a shop on the list that can help.

Would you mind showing us some photos of your undercarriage?
I can't imagine rust being so bad that it would take $20,000 to fix the AHC!!

Here's the OEM part from Japan for ~$200 shipped ( I know where you can get it for ~$120+ shipping). It isn't rocket science to replace at home, and requires a few basic hand tools. However, the big question, is this the first of many rusty parts to fail?

I think it is Lexus's culture that they don't want to work on vehicles that have rust in them. Dealer was giving me an option to trade my LX570. I had similar experience on GS430. I sold that one for someone who wanted to fix themselves and gift it to his dad.

Learning now that how bad the problem is with Lexus in salt belt area. Anywhere else they are bullet proof.

If it was my 2013 LX, I'd start throwing parts at it, but I know how to work on AHC systems (thanks MUD!). If you don't want to wrench off rusty bolts by yourself, you're best options are:

-Find an independent shop to do the work and buy the parts online $$$
-Take it to the dealer $$$$$
-Swap to conventional suspension
I may end up fixing it myself as the problem itself (technically) is easy to fix. I understand the parts are expensive and it might take a bit of an effort to start chasing the issue. I live in Boston down and I park on street. Not easy to work but I will find a way....

Thanks and I will look into it.

I bet it was a typo
