Good evening,

Hi I'm the new guy here. Been watching this forum for about 2 yrs and decided to register. Let me first state I am not a top mechanic, just a small car enthusiast who loves working on his vehicles.

Today, I decided to replace my bad starter. I removed the misc parts in order to get the manifold off. Once the manifold was taken out, I then replaced the starter. After the starter was installed, I then replaced all misc parts including the manifold.

Note: When I re-installed the manifold,I re-used the previous gasket that was on the lower manifold (upper manifold was never removed). In addition I re-used injector lower seals (injectors where never removed from fuel rails).

To make a long story short, I then went to start up the truck, which it started but then began to putter as if it was misfiring. I can even feel the putter if I placed my hand over the exhausts pipe. Plus my check engine light came on as soon as the truck started puttering.

My questions are:

1) What could be the cause of my problem, air leak in lower manifold or injector not properly secured?
2) Should I have replaced the lower manifold gaskets or injector gaskets?

Also the injects can turn if you push with your finger, it’s somewhat lose?

I will post pictures of what I did tomorrow (find camera cord).

Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know I resolved the issue by replacing the intake manifold gaskets with crush fitted gaskets. I also cleaned the intake manifold and throttle body so now my baby is back on the road again.

Thanks!
