Im convinced my lx is running rich. after i pull the cruiser in the garage its stinks heavily of gas fumes. i put a new gas cap on since thats what a few people said it was but its still very gassy. Is there anything i could do or check to find out if it is indeed running rich? i replaced the battery about 4 days ado so that would have reset the computer if that was the problem? The cruiser has 130,000 miles it seems to run fine, strong and fast off the line. any ideas?

thanks
mike

If it was running rich it would probably set a code and turn on the check engine light. Just guessing, probably a leak in the evaporative emission controls or a slight leak in the fuel injection system.

LXMikey,

The fuel smell is probably from a saturated charcoal canister. It's the big can under the bonnet behind the battery.

Ditto, my vote as well.....

Mine stinks as well and it's starting to drive me nuts. I also replaced the cap but the exhaust still smells realy lean as well. No codes...I guess I'll try and figure it out when it warms up...in May!

charcol canister? where is that exactly? and should i replace? how much? what causes it?
thanks

wow dude relax. i didnt mean to come off as ignorant or anything i just read it quickly a few days ago and have since been driving up to washington so there for it has been a few days, however i still dont know if i should replace? what it does? or what would case it to get saturated?

thanks again
and sorry if came off the wrong way

IIRC, the charcoal canister absorbs fuel vapor present in the fuel tank probably for some kind of emissions deal. You can't repair it or change out the charcoal... you got to replace the whole cannister. I think it's kind of pricey, but check with C'Dan for the cost new.
